Danica Patrick, Happy Birthday!

There are simply some things in life that have to be accepted, and one of those facts is that there is something inherently hot about a beautiful woman who loves fast, powerful cars. Now, it’s often good enough that some dishy model is draped over the hood of a Lamborghini, but most would know that said model would be less in her element behind the wheel of that car as opposed to modeling with it, or smiling bright from the passenger’s seat. But with Danica Patrick, there’s a fine young lady who looks good behind the wheel, draped across the hood, and blowing the doors off of every other Lamborghini driven by any guy in the state.

Look the word ‘hot’ up in the dictionary and there you’ll find Danica Patrick moving a Cherry Red sports car faster than Jim Carrey can say, ‘smokin’!’ If this is a modern male dictionary, she’s in a little black dress or a bikini, but it doesn’t really matter, because she can really do that.

Because she can do just that, let’s let go of the fact that she’s stunning to the eye, with her petite figure, dazzling eyes and long, thick dark hair. Besides, she married a physical therapist 16 years her senior (some guys, you know?) and is a very busy professional woman. Danica was virtually born to race cars, with her career starting when she was quite young. She started like many professional racers, by competing in Go-Karting races and doing very well in World Karting Association competitions. Because Danica’s racing career genuinely looked so promising, her family moved her to Europe where she could establish herself and gain more experience, eventually leading to where she could place herself in the realm of competition anywhere.

This paid off for her because she proved herself in British and European racing, setting a woman’s record by coming in second at Britain’s Formula Ford Festival. By the time she was twenty, it seemed she was ready to come back to America in 2002 and continue forward with her career. She started racing for the Rahal Letterman Racing team (owned partly by David Letterman) and by 2005, it was time for Danica Patrick to achieve some real greatness.

Danica achieved just that by competing in the IRL IndyCar Series. She raced in the Indianapolis 500 (one of only four women to ever do so) and came in fourth place, the best of any female driver, and actually led 19 laps of the race, also a major record. With no more doubt for anyone to front, Danica Patrick was clearly not just another pretty face. She was a skilled, talented professional race car driver. In fact, she continues to make records at the Indy 500; in 2009, she came in third, setting yet another record.

Danica Patrick’s career has steadily remained high among the competition and she has every right and reason to claim the job as hers, regardless of some of the media attention she receives as a result of her gender and looks. In fact, there have been those who have complained because she uses these assets as a means of self-promotion. That is patently unfair; it would be like saying a boxer would be wrong for pointing out that he can take and throw a punch. She is competing and doing well in a highly competitive sport, and holding her own without the added attention. So the fact that she is promoting her future by utilizing the assets available to her only makes good sense. In fact, it would be fairer to criticize her if she was trying to hide these facts, as if they distracted from her job. This may seem obvious, but auto racing is a spectator sport, not banking. Who a person is as well as what they do is a significant factor in any element of the Sports & Entertainment Industry. Nobody criticizes Angelina Jolie for being an attractive actress, do they? Perhaps only if they’re jealous.

She is making millions in endorsements, racing like a bat out of hell on the track, inspiring young fans wherever she goes, and making kicking ass look so easy. Not bad for a little lady who is barely over five feet tall and tipping just beyond one hundred pounds. Besides, she isn’t even thirty years old yet. Danica Patrick was born on the 25th of March in 1982. This humble writer knows people who are still trying to figure out their lives after graduating from high school that year.

So, on the 25th of March, let’s wave the checkered flag to say three cheers to Danica Patrick as she crosses the finish line on yet another good year in her young life. All the race fans can cheer yet again, knowing that this pretty young lady with the lead foot will likely be there for all to see for a long time to come.
