Comedy Movies of the 1990’s

Best Comedy Movies, Patch Adams

Comedy has been around for a long time. Some of the best comedy movies came out of the 1990’s. I may be biased on my opinion here since in the 90’s I was between the ages of 10 and 20 so some comedies that may have been produced at the time might not have been on my allowed to see list. Here are the ones that I remember making me laugh so hard my sides shook and tears streamed down my face.

Kindergarten Cop: Yes the Governator was an actor before he became Governor of CA. He was even funny. Arnold Schwarzenegger is a cop undercover as a kindergarten teacher in this film. The kids in the class put him through the ringer and the school’s principal is always amusing. I have seen this movie many times over the years and it still makes me laugh. More so now because I know what Kindergarteners can do.

Home Alone: Macauley Culkin’s big debut as a kid in this film. Slapstick humor will never die and this movie proves it. Kids are ingenious and this movie proves it with humor and wit. It’s always good to get the best of the bad guy.

What about Bob?: For some reason this movie is referenced quite often in my home. Bill Murray shows off his wit and humor in this film when he gets passed from shrink to shrink. He learns to take “baby steps” from a book written by a shrink played by Richard Dreyfuss. Bill Murray’s character follows him to his vacation home where he is to be interviewed. The laughs roll in from there.

The Naked Gun 2 ½ The smell of Fear: Leslie Neilson need I say more? A riotous laugh from beginning to end.

My Girl: This was a dramedy. I have to include it for the humor involved though. This is an all time favorite of mine and many others although it is sad in parts. Macauley Culkin, Anna Chlumsky, Dan Ackroyd and Jamie Lee Curtis make this film memorable.

Delirious: I am still a fan. John Candy is a writer who gets hit in the head while writing a soap opera. He then wakes up in the soap. It’s a wacky fun humor that involves a typewriter.

The Addams Family: Dark humor presents itself once a con artist tries to pass off someone to the family as their long lost Uncle Fester. If you like dark comedies this one is for you.

Wayne’s World: Wayne’s World, Wayne’s World, Party Time, Excellent. SWISH! If I lost you there you need to see the movie. You will then get it. Mike Meyers and Dana Carvey are a great comedy duo in this film, lots of hot chick too!

Robin Hood- Men in Tights: Tight tights. This movie has Carey Elwes playing Robin Hood and it is a musical laugh from start to finish. If you don’t know who Carey Elwes is you really need to see the film The Princess Bride.

Patch Adams: Another Dramedy but worthwhile for the comedy of Robin Williams. Humor touches us in so many ways including the healing process.

These are just 10 on my list. There are plenty of other comedies that came out of the 90’s that are worth seeing for there humor. If you don’t like these try 10 Things I hate about you an early Heath Ledger film or for a stupid comedy try American Pie where 4 college students are off to lose their virginity.
