Chevrolet Cobalt LT, 2009. Product Review

Cobalt, Kia Sorento

When I was driving home from work, a couple of weeks ago, a guy came out of a side street, and hit the side of my car. When my car went into the body shop for repairs, I contacted the other driver’s car insurance, to arrange a rental car.

Enterprise came and picked us up from the body shop in a Chevrolet Cobalt LT. The color was white, and was a 2009 model, which had already done over 30,000 miles. The guy drove us back to Enterprise, to fill out the paperwork, and then we were ready to drive off.

The Chevrolet Cobalt LT is a much smaller car then either Len or I are used it. He has the Kia Sorento and I have the Kia Optima.

So I couldn’t wait to get behind the wheel. The Enterprise guy, showed me how to move the seat forward, back, up and down. I got it to the right height and length, so that my feet were correct, for the pedals. I adjusted the rear view mirror, and did the side mirrors electronically.

The seat was just okay, and certainly wasn’t as comfortable as my car, but this is a smaller, economy vehicle, that just ha a basic seat.

When I started driving it, it had the automatic transmission, I put it into drive, and it moved off easily. Once I got onto the highway, I had no trouble doing the 55 miles an hour speed limit. It actually has some get up and go, because at the lights I wasn’t left standing.

I see that it has a 2.2L 4-cylinder engine, which being a ‘woman’ doesn’t mean much to me, but it worked great with this small car. When I had to stop at traffic lights, which changed when I was fairly close to them, the brakes worked really well, and I didn’t come to a jerky halt. It was nice and smooth.

Once home I walked around the car, and it looked really nice. It is not sporty, but has a shape I like. The windows are tinted so it is hard to look inside the car. I got in the back seat and there wasn’t too much leg room. If the passenger in the front seat pulls their seat forward, then the rear seating is improved. Also there are seat belts for 3 passengers in the back. The Chevrolet Cobalt will seat 2 adults comfortably, but 3 could be a squeeze. If children are in the back seats, then there would be no problem.

It also has a split folding rear seat for carrying big items.

Upon opening the trunk, I was really surprised at the amount of luggage area it has. I am still amazed as to how they created so much room.

The Chevrolet Cobalt has driver, passenger front, and side airbags.

This car has a remote key-less entry system. You click it once to lock it, and a second time for it to ‘beep’. When opening it you have to click it twice to open all the doors. It also has an alarm, which is always great, when us ladies go out on our own. It also has a remote trunk release.

The doors have power locks, and will lock once you have started the engine. It also has rear door security locks, so your passengers won’t be able to let themselves out. This is great for families with young children. There are power windows, and all can be controlled by the driver. The outside power mirrors are adjusted by the driver.

The turn signal/multifunction lever controls the headlights, side lights, signals, windshield wipers, and windshield washer. The air-conditioning worked really great, and we had to turn it off, because of the cooler temperature, here in Florida.

There are 2 cup holders in the front, and also one for rear passengers. It has plenty of storage space, with the glove compartment, and the compartment between the driver and passenger.

All the dials on the dashboard are easy to see and understand. The radio comes on when the car is started, and stays on even when the engine goes off. Once the car door is open, then the radio stops.

The only problem we had with the Chevrolet Cobalt LT, and it is not the fault of the car, is that the wireless remote stopped working. The only way we could get into the car was to unlock it with the key. The alarm would go off, and then we had to stop the alarm. This made me feel a little uncomfortable, but what’s a girl going to do.

I drove the car for 5 days, while mine was in the body shop and really enjoyed it. No it didn’t give as good a ride as my old faithful car, but it is kind of zippy, and a fun car to drive.

I checked out the price and they start at $14.990. I wouldn’t personally purchase this vehicle, but it certainly has a place, for families with small children. The gas mileage alone would be a great sell, at 37 miles to the gallon. Len’s Sorento only gets 15 to the gallon around town.
