Cheap Ways to Make Any Window Private

Window Film

The bathroom is not the only room in the home where complete privacy is a must. When homes are close together or next to busy locations, privacy can be a problem no matter the location. Drapes and blinds are not always the best way to make a window private for a number of reasons. Instead, many people look for cheap, fast, and easy methods that go beyond tossing a blanket over a curtain rod. Try these cheap, simple ways to make any window private, and enjoy natural light without worrying about peeping toms, neighbors, or passersby that might try to look in.

Stained Glass Film for Instant Privacy Windows

One of the best ways to make any window private is with stained glass window film. Although it is not exactly cheap, it is cheaper than a combination of blinds and fabric. Visit a home improvement store for several design choices, or search the Internet to find it as cheap as possible.

From a distance it looks like real stained glass, and it will make any window completely private while allowing light to filter in. This cheap but decorative material can be trimmed for a perfect fit, and it does not look the least bit cheap. During the day the colors and designs are more apparent inside the home, and at night when the room is illuminated, the window film creates a colorful display that can be viewed from outdoors. It can turn a clear pane of glass into a completely private work of illuminated art.

This is my favorite cheap way to make windows private. I used it in a bathroom because the blinds had small openings, and I used it on a hexagon-shaped window at the bottom of a staircase. I loved the window, but it was not private or an ideal location for a curtain or another type of window treatment. The window film made the glass completely private while allowing valuable natural light to shine in.

Peel and Stick Film to Make Windows Private

For years people have been using Contact brand peel and stick film to make bathroom windows private, and it is still a great way to make any window completely private. It comes in many semi-clear designs that distort the view, and it is cheap in price. When applied with care it is nearly impossible to tell just by looking that it is Contact brand film, especially from a distance. It looks like high-quality distorted glass, and it works like a charm to make a window private without completely blocking natural light.

Colored Bubble Wrap for a Quirky and Colorful Way to Make it Private

Another cheap way to make a window private is also one of the quirkiest ways. Bubble wrap that is typically used to cover breakables can be colored with permanent markers and affixed to a windowpane to make it private. From a distance colored bubble wrap looks like unique window glass, but it is cheap and very easy to obtain by the roll. The air-filled bubbles come in various sizes and provide numerous decorating opportunities. Use the bubbles as patterns to make colorful daisies and other designs for a really cheap and unique way to make a window private. Although it is cheap it will not look cheap when it is carefully colored and neatly tacked over a pane of glass.
