Brazilian Keratin Hair Treatment Review

Keratin, Keratin Treatment, Straightening Hair, Sulfate Free Shampoo

For those of us with naturally unruly coarse hair, trying to manage it is very time consuming and many times leaves our hair damaged. I have a mixture of African American and Caucasian hair. In its natural state it’s very coarse, frizzy, and hard to do anything with. I usually got relaxers to help out, which they did to an extent, but at the same time relaxers are very damaging to hair and irritate the scalp. Then I heard about the Brazilian Keratin Hair Treatment.

The first time I heard about it was during one of my nights browsing the Internet for tips on straightening hair like mine. This one young lady with gorgeous hair made a video of herself telling about this treatment and how it literally transformed her hair. As I kept listening she said that relaxers damaged her hair severely but that this treatment did the opposite. She also said after the treatments it makes your hair not only straighter and less frizzy, but after regular shampoos it is really straight without even flat ironing it. She said that it’s really pricey at salons but much cheaper to do at home, which is how she does hers. I was so excited to hear about such a thing and wondered if it was true. I decided to research further and gather more opinions.

After looking into it I found that it is supposed to make your hair stronger, more manageable and straighter. All pluses so far. Also it can be used on any kind of hair, and it doesn’t matter if its been damaged or bleached. I also viewed some videos on how to do it yourself. I went on EBay and bought a kit for about $45. The brand was John Paul Paris and it came with three items: a clarifying shampoo, the keratin treatment, and a sulfate free shampoo. All you need to do it at home is a good flat iron that gets up to 450 degrees, a hair dryer, and an application brush (like the ones used to apply dye or a relaxer to hair). I washed my hair with the clarifying shampoo and then dried it until it was about 80 percent dry. Then I applied the keratin treatment throughout my hair with the application brush. The smell can be strong so make sure and do this in a well ventilated area. After I got through applying the keratin treatment to my hair i dried it again until it was completely dry. Then I flat ironed it with the flat iron set to 450 degrees. I went over each section a couple of times to seal in the treatment.

When I got done I was really impressed with the initial results. There are a few things you shouldn’t do though for 72 hours after you put the treatment in. You need to wait at least this long before you wash it, and when you do you need to use a sulfate free shampoo. You also shouldn’t wear hair clips or bows for this time period. Your hair is prone to have unsightly lines in it if you do. The good news is if your hair curls itself up in spots due to humidity or something you can always flat iron it again during this time.

The best part was a week after I did the treatment. I washed my hair with the sulfate free shampoo, and used a re constructor and conditioner since my hair has been previously over processed. I let my hair air dry over night to avoid using the damaging heat of a hair dryer. The next morning when I woke up I couldn’t believe how straight most of my hair was. Let me tell you that has never happened when my hair has dried naturally before. I’ve never been able to use the dryer and get it to look like that. I only had to flat iron a few spots where I probably didn’t cover them so well with the treatment. It only took me about five or ten minutes to get my hair looking good to head out for the day.

My hair feels softer and smoother than it has in probably a year or more. It so much easier to fix, straighter and less time consuming. Since it is this way I don’t have to put so much heat on it to style it or straighten it. I highly recommend this for anyone with unruly, hair that can’t be tamed!
