Borneo Monster: There’s a New Cryptid in Town

Borneo

I’m a big fan of cryptids, whether they’re real or not. I enjoy seeing pictures of them (even if they are just photoshopped), learning the legends behind their existences, and wondering just how much the world would change if one of these creatures were actually discovered and captured.

We got all small taste of the level of public fascination with cryptids when some pranksters tried to convince the press that they’d found the body of Bigfoot. The men received death threats, and one of them lost his job as a police officer. So you don’t want to fool around when it comes to cryptid hoaxes.

Then we all learned of the Motauk Monster, a hairless creature with the head and body of a dog, a beak, and one elongated claw. This too turned out to be a hoax and nothing more than a publicity stunt.

And there have been so many sightings over the years, whether caught on camera or not, with no solid proof that these creatures exist. Nessie, Bigfoot, Mothman, the Chupacabra, Jersey Devil, and Dover Demon are all frightening “hell beasts” that capture our imaginations and make us afraid to step outside alone in the dark. But I’m honestly disappointed with all of these cryptids, and the newest one, the Borneo Monster, is no exception.

Basically the Borneo Monster is nothing more than a snake. A really, really big snake, which, judging by the photos of it (you can see them here), could swallow an entire small village in one gulp. Sure that would be an incredible discovery, but the photographs of the creature (taken from a helicopter) are way too perfect; there aren’t enough of them; and this thing is so gigantic, there’s no way it could be missed, especially since it lives in a river. Not to mention the fact that the name of the photographer is unknown. If you were in possession of such amazing evidence of the existence of a whole new species, especially a majestic creature like the Borneo Monster, wouldn’t you want some recognition for it?

But I honestly don’t mind the hoax. I just wish people would get more creative with their cryptids. I mean, we have some pretty incredible animals on the earth already. Just look at the long-necked giraffe, flying squirrel, or the platypus and okapi, which both look as if they were made from the leftover parts of many different species. There’s a jellyfish no bigger than the end of your thumb that can kill you, and nightmarish spiders bigger than your hand. Then just think of the fact that gigantic, terrifying-looking creatures with huge teeth and claws used to roam the earth and sharks as big as buses prowled the seas. Incredible things have and will always inhabit our planet, and we actually know about a vast majority of them. And it’s this fact that makes me so disappointed in the creation of cryptids.

Many of them are just huge versions of creatures that do exist, like the Borneo Monster, Bigfoot, Kraken, and Mothman, and others are animals that closely resemble species that we know exist or have existed in the past, like the Chupacabra, Montauk Monster, and Loch Ness Monster. The Jersey Devil simply looks like the Biblical depiction of the Devil, and the Dover Demon looks a lot like the tiny aliens known as “greys”. So crytpids are fun, but not very creative.

I’m just waiting for people to start reporting spotting a creature that doesn’t have legs and simply floats in the air; has skin that reflects like a mirror; a five-foot long horn that looks like it’s made out of diamonds, five rows of razor-sharp teeth, eyes as big as plates, and a top hat on its triangular head. Now that I would love to see photo of, real or not.
