Best Soccer Balls for Kids

Puma, Soccer Ball

With soccer season approaching in the next few months, little leagues around the country are beginning their sign ups. Our daughter absolutely loves soccer, and I’ve gotten quite the “soccer ball education” in the last few months since she’s been playing. Below are 5 of the best soccer balls for kids.

First, before you begin looking for soccer balls, make sure you know your childs size. Yes, soccer balls come in different sizes. The official FIFA soccer ball size is a 5. However, for little league sizes they offer 3 different sizes, size 3, size 4 and size 5. Size 3 is used for U8 and below leagues. Size 4 is used for U10-U12 leagues and size 5 is used for U12 and above leagues. Once you figure out what league your child is in, you can begin searching for a ball.

1) Zephz Crystal Z Soccer Ball. This brightly colored pink ball is perfect for your kids because it makes it easy to spot during practices. If you get a plain black and white ball, you’ll have to make sure you label it to ensure that your child does indeed take home their ball after practice. The Zephz Crystal Z ball eliminates that because it’s brightly colored with a unique design on it..making it easy to always pick out your childs ball. The ball is also constructed very solidly, featuring 4 layers of woven backing and hand-stitching. The Zephz Crystal Z ball is available at Sports Authority in a size 4 for $12.99.

2) Champion Sports Shark Soccer Ball. Like the Zephz Crystal Z ball, this shark soccer ball is perfect because it’s unique enough to stand out during practices with tons of soccer balls flying around. This soccer ball also features a machined stitched construction and durable materials to withstand all weather. So, if your kids leave the ball out in the backyard during a thunderstorm..no big deal. It also features a butyl bladder for air retention, making it perfect for intermediate soccer players. The Champion Sports Shark Soccer Ball is available at Sports Authority in a size 5 for $14.99.

3) Puma Cellerator Soccer Ball. This soccer ball is great for kids because it’s easy on the wallet (only $10.00) which means you, as parents, can afford to replace it numerous times when it gets lost, kicked up onto the roof, thrown in the lake, and all the other circumstances that kids can create. It’s also great for all weather conditions, and is made by Puma, which is one of the most durable sports producers. The Puma Cellerator ball is available at Soccer Supplies in sizes 3, 4, and 5 for $10.00.

4) Nike Mercurial Fade Soccer Ball. This is a great option because it’s incredibly low cost, made very well (32 panels of machine stitched) and contains 6 wings of latex bladder for intense air power and rebound power. It’s available in two colors (silver and pink, and silver and red) and is available through Sports Unlimited Inc. in a size 4 for only $4.99.

5) Franklin Dora the Explorer Soccer Ball. Most young kids love Dora the Explorer and this soccer ball is the perfect way to get them excited for the soccer season. It’s made out of foam, as well as butyl bladder which makes it great because minimal injuries will occur (because of the soft outer surface) but also contains the butyl bladder which is important for the ball to have so it has some sense of air retention and rebound power. The Franklin Dora the Explorer Soccer ball is available in two colors (yellow and blue) and is available at Target in a size 3 for $12.99.
