Best Dog Kennels in York County, PA

Boarding Kennels, Kennels

Dog owners in York County, PA have many choices when it comes to boarding their dogs. Based on research in the summer of 2009, here are my top picks for the best dog kennels in the local area. Many of these kennels board cats as well, in an area separate from the dogs.

At the top of the list, try Country Comfort Camp for Pets, with two locations in PA: Shrewsbury and Delta, both in the south end of York County. They are members of the American Boarding Kennels Association. Deluxe accommodations are available for your dogs, such as indoor-outdoor terrace suites or a cottage suite with video cam. Indoor runs are climate controlled. Other services include doggy daycare, playgroups, behavior training, grooming, hydrotherapy, shuttle service, countryside hikes, yard ball and frisbee, and one-on-one time with your less active dog. Medications can be administered, and special diets are catered to. Depending on which accommodations and services you choose for your canine companion, boarding can be expensive, but you will have no worries about your pet while you are away from home. And that is priceless!

Right in York, located just east of the city near the interstate, you will find Morgan’s Paws Pet Care Center, with the slogan “York’s Only Cage Free Daycare. In addition to doggy daycare, they offer luxury suite boarding, climate controlled accommodations, and grooming services. Private web cams allow you to keep an eye on your dogs while in their suites. There are also public cameras placed in the doggy daycare areas, available to anyone. There is an indoor dog pool, walks and playtime for boarders, and your pet can watch TV in their suite (tuned to Animal Planet) if you request. For more information, go to www.morganspaws.com.

Locust Run Kennels also gets a good rating on Yahoo’s City Guide. Located 15 minutes east of York on Canadochly Rd., this boarding facility has 330 heated indoor/outdoor kennels, air conditioned kennels available, 300 large indoor and outdoor runs, and pet-sitting services. In cooperation with Columbia Animal Hospital, many more animal services are available.

HappiTee Kennels in Windsor PA offers a large play yard, climate controlled accommodations, grooming, premium natural pet foods, and a behavior modification program.

The York area has many excellent animal hospitals and veterinary clinics, most of which have boarding kennels, and many of the premium services that the aforementioned kennels offer. My concern with boarding dogs at clinics and hospitals is that the cries, smells and germs of sick animals may be near the areas where healthy animals are being boarded. Dogs are very sensitive to what is going on around them, and can sense the distress of other animals. This information is intended to inform and to make general recommendations only. You are encouraged to get further details before deciding which boarding kennel is right for your dog.
