Beauty Product Review: Burt’s Bees Pore-Refining Mask with French Green Clay

burt's bees, Rosewater

I’ve never been blessed with flawless skin and I can accept that. Although, my skin may not be perfect, I, like many others, want to keep acne and oily skin under control. Now, I’ve tried numerous products. I’ve tried moisturizers, creams, gels, washes, and even acne patches. Rarely would a product work for me and give me good results.

While vacationing in North Carolina, I visited Mast General Store. In the store, I found a cute and 100% organic health and beauty line: Burt’s Bees (who knew!). Now this hasn’t been the first time I’ve seen this line of products. I know for a fact that Burt’s Bees sell their products nationwide. However, the general store had a large amount and wide variety of products because Burt’s Bees is based out of Durham, North Carolina. Since all the Burt’s Bees products were 20% off, I decided to see if there was anything that might be good for my skin. Immediately the Burt’s Bees Pore-Refining Mask with French Green Clay seemed to be calling to me. I purchased the product and couldn’t wait until I returned home to Chicago to try it out.

How it works: One thing I was surprised about is that Burt’s Bees Pore-Refining Mask comes in powder form. This is no complaint though because in this cute container you get 1 ounce of powder, which you get about 5 uses out of it. First, you need to get a bowl and sprinkle a generous amount of powder into the bowl. The back of the box recommends one table spoon. Then add small amounts of water and mix. This will then form a green paste. The box also recommends using grapefruit juice or green tea for oily skin, carrot juice for mature skin, or tomato juice for troubled skin. I just stuck to water. When you get the green paste, apply it to your face, avoiding your lips and eyes. The paste will tingle on your skin as you feel it opening and refining your pores. It takes about 20 minutes to fully dry into a hard mask. Once it is dry, wash off with warm water. It is a little difficult to wash off, so I advise using a shower head instead of a skin and washcloth. Once the mask is fully washed away from the skin, pat your face dry. That’s all there is to it! Remember that you can use this mask up to twice a week.

Label Warning: “Your Face may appear flushed after using this mask, due to increased circulation on the surface of your skin. This effect will subside in 10-20 minutes. Patch test before using.”

Overall review: For me and my oily skin, this product is great. I am tempted to try the green tea or grapefruit juice to see how it works with the mask and my skin. It’s different than a lot of other facial masks out there because you can actually feel the difference in your skin after you use it. A lot of other masks fall flat when it comes to seeing the instant difference when using the product. I recommend this product to anyone looks for a great facial mask and great skin.

The price and where to buy: When not on sale, the price is a bit steep. I bought the Burt’s Bees Pore-Refining Mask for $6.00 at the Mast General Store in North Carolina. Burt’s Bees website sells the product for $8.00. However, while the website seems ideal, shipping is the steep part. The total cost with shipping and tax for the product came out to be $15.94 for me.

However, there are cheaper places to buy this great product. Since I am not going back to North Carolina any time soon, I now buy the product on eBay. The average sale price for a 1 ounce container of Burt’s Bees Pore-Refining Mask is between $8-$12, shipping included. You can get much better deals if you buy a set of two or send sellers offers for the product. You may also want to check out Amazon. They have good prices, but still can’t beat eBay.

Other products you can try with Burt’s Bees Pore-Refining Mask: One product I truly suggest using with the mask is the Burt’s Bees Rosewater & Glycerin Toner. It leaves a fresh feeling and smelling scent on your skin. You can also use this product to keep up your skin between using the mask.
