Bananas seem to have a fairly short lived life. When left on the counter, there seems to be a span of about 3 days when the bananas are perfect to eat. Before that time, they are too green, and after that time they are too brown. Although there is no way to un-ripen a banana, you can certain speed up the ripening process. Simply place the bananas in a brown paper sack with an apple. If you want your bananas to ripen much quicker, close the sack.

Storing Bananas in The Refrigerator
One way to slow down the ripening process of bananas is to keep them in the refrigerator. Have you ever gone to the grocery store and seen perfectly ripe bananas on sale for 29 cents a pound? Now you can fully take advantage of that type of sale. Stock up on your sale bananas because they won’t go bad as quickly if they are stored in the refrigerator. Although the peel will turn a yucky brown, the edible part will be unchanged. There is no reason not to refrigerate your bananas.

Overripe Bananas
If you think there is nothing you can do with overripe bananas, think again. There is no need to throw out a brown banana. Simply mash it, add a little bit of lemon juice and freeze it in an airtight container. If you ever need banana to make bread or milkshakes, you already will have your supply. Also, if overripe they make great baby food. If you have a baby, mash them up and freeze them in ice cube trays. They are the perfect serving size for the little ones.
