Baby Sock Sachet Gift and Shower Favor

Baby Booties, Potpourri

Do you know someone who is expecting a visit from the stork? Everyone loves picking out those cute little outfits and toys for the new baby, but can you think of something different?

Maybe you are planning to throw a baby shower for one of your dearest friends or relatives. If you are still searching for a cute party favor or table decoration, look no further. This adorable baby sock idea will be just what you have been looking for and tried so hard to find.

What You Need

To make the craft you do not need to be extremely crafty or a highly-skilled seamstress. All you will need is a few pairs of baby socks, coordinating thread, a needle, and potpourri. If you wish to embellish the project with ribbon or safety pins, then have those items handy, too. For those who want to add notions to the project, a hot glue gun may be handy.

What to Do

First, remove all tags and packaging from each pair of baby socks. Discard your waste and get it out of your way. This will clear the craft area for more room to work.

Next, Open your potpourri packages and fill the baby socks. You may prefer to use one scent of potpourri for all of the baby booties, or you can mix things up a bit with various scents. Selecting your potpourri is an important part of this craft.

You will want to fill the tiny sock almost completely. Avoid cramming the potpourri into the baby bootie in a harsh manner. This will simply make a mess. Gently place the potpourri into the sock until it nearly reaches the top if the sock is a short bootie. If you have purchased longer socks that roll down into a cuff, only fill it about 1/3 of the way up past the foot area. This will allow you room to sew the sock shut and fold the rest of the sock down. This idea works very well for lacy socks or ones with pictures on them. It is important to not overstuff the sock.

Sewing the sock closed is important. Make certain that the baby sock has been closed securely or the potpourri may spill out. This would certainly detract from the gift.

You can use a sewing machine to close the top of the baby sock or sew it by hand. An alternative idea to closing the sock with thread is to use a fine ribbon.

Once the baby sock has been securely closed, you are done. If you prefer to add tiny bows, glitter, or buttons to the project, by all means, go ahead. Decorative baby safety pins also look adorable attached to the little booties.

This easy and inexpensive craft makes a great gift or favor for the baby shower. The mother-to-be and the guests at the party will be talking about the adorable sachets made especially by you.
