Angel Food Ministries: Discount Food Program, Top Quality Food

Douglasville

Community Fellowship Ministries, in Paulding County, Georgia, introduced Angel Food Ministries September 2007, to provide assistance and a measure of financial relief to the families in our community. As a host site, we collect money, food orders, and open as a distribution site on delivery day.
In 1994 Angel Food Ministries began as non-profit to help families in need in rural, Monroe, Georgia. In 1994, 34 families were fed. Today, Angel Food Ministries helps feed over 500,000 in over 34 states. Partnering with churches and other community organizations, Angel Food offers a $25 medium sized box of fresh and frozen food. The contents are not second rate, dented, dated or sell-offs. The food is top quality and is generally valued between $48 and $50.

The menu varies from month to month, and provides staples for the family. A sample menu follows:

1 package chicken nuggets
4 8-oz hamburger steaks
4 6-oz pork chops
1.5 lb. thick bacon
1 dozen eggs
2-lb bag of frozen French fries
5 bagels
2-lb bag of onions
4 Delicious Apples
5 Bananas
1 Gourmet Pie

In addition to the standard menu for $25, you may add special meat packages. For example, this month we were able to purchase a package of 6 t-bones for $19. There are usually two or three additional meat packages to choose from with each menu. The cost and type of meat varies. The meat is first rate, low fat, and as good as any I have found at the market.

I was dubious when I first heard of the Angel Food Program. I thought of it something like a food bank, selling off discarded food. I was way off base. Angel Food Ministries is one hand reaching into communities all over the United States attempting to ameliorate hunger serve their neighbors in love.

Angel Food Ministries has been a blessing to my family. Community Fellowship is excited to facilitate the program in our community. I recommend finding an Angel Food Ministry near you, and giving it a try.

You can find the Angel Food Ministry administrator near you by visiting their website, www.angelfoodministries.com. If no organization offers Angel Food Ministries in your area, contact a local church. You may be the volunteer they need to administrate the service.

It only cost the hosting Church a little time and love for people in their community.
