Alba Lip Balm in “Coconut Cream” Review

Natural Cosmetics

Earlier in the summer I was browsing at a local Walgreen’s when I came across some products from the Alba brand which creates natural products. I’d wanted to incorporate more natural cosmetics into my beauty regime, but I wasn’t sure how effective Alba’s stuff would be, so I just decided to try out an expensive lip balm first. I chose their Coconut Cream Lip Balm because I thought it’d smell good.

Price of
Alba Coconut Cream Lip Balm

A .15oz yellow tube costs $3.39.

Ingredients in
Alba Coconut Cream Lip Balm

The label states that all of the ingredients are 100% vegetarian and weren’t tested on animals. But I’m not sure if all of the ingredients are 100% natural.

It contains organic coconut oil, castor seed oil, candelilla wax, coconut flavor, organic jojoba seed oil, behenyl alcohol, rice bran wax, aloe leaf extract, carnauba wax, ammonium glycyrrhizate, organic apricot kernel oil, tocopherol and tocopheryl acetate, wheat germ oil, allantoin and soybean oil.

Scent of
Alba Coconut Cream Lip Balm

I didn’t think the Coconut Cream scent was anything to write home about. It doesn’t smell awful or anything, the scent reminds of pineapples and coconuts, but the fragrance is very soft so it’s barely noticeable.

Texture of
Alba Coconut Cream Lip Balm

As soon as I put it on I noticed that it feels creamy, not slick or oily, yet it did give my lips a bit of shine, which was nice.

But it has a very heavy feel, which was a bit too suffocating for me to want to use during the summer. Now that the weather’s cooled down I find myself using it more, but it still makes my lips feel weighed down and a little too warm.

However the Alba Coconut Cream lip balm does get my lips pretty soft, and if they’re really chapped they help to soften the dead skin so that I can buff it away easily.

In the End…

I’m on the fence about this product. On one hand it makes my lips super soft, but I really hate how heavy it feels even when I only apply one coat.

I also don’t care for the twistable tube this balm comes in, the twistable part is at the top of the tube, rather than the bottom like most lip balms, which was fine, but it’s loose. So I always have difficulty releasing the balm and pushing it back inside the tube.

I think it’s better than a lot of the waxier balms that are out there, but I probably wouldn’t buy it again. I give it 3.5 out of 5 stars.
