Wellborn Cabinet Inc. was founded in 1961 in Alabama, where it has its own timber-processing mill. It has remained in the Wellborn family since its founding. Wellborn offers stock cabinetry in a variety of door styles and finish options. There are five basic wood species used for the Wellborn cabinetry lines – cherry, maple, oak, hickory, and Thermofoil, which is a wrapped medium density fiberboard. In addition to kitchen cabinets, Wellborn also offers entertainment centers, cabinets and accessories for offices, closet accessories, and many others, including a line of accessible cabinetry that is directed to aid in independent living for those with special needs. This article will provide you with my review of Wellborn’s kitchen cabinets.
Design. Wellborn offers seven different designs for kitchen cabinetry ideas: formal, casual, contemporary, traditional, country, transitional and eclectic. Their country design is very nice, a combination of maple or oak mixed with a layout that is conducive to gatherings and meals. I was also very taken by their contemporary kitchen designs, which featured very clean lines with modern features. Of course, all of these kitchen designs are merely suggestions, and customers can mix and match the ideas any way they choose. Upgrades. Wellborn classified is cabinets into three categories: good, better, and best. Its Deluxe and Select Series are “good”, its Premier Series is “better” and its Woodcraft Series is the “best.” Wellborn Select series allows the purchaser options such as solid wood dovetail doors and specialty finishes. Wellborn Premier Semi-Custom Series is an upgrade on Wellborn Select, offering solid wood drawers, frames and raised panels. Wellborn Woodcraft Series offers all of the upgrades of the Premier Series options and in addition includes plywood box constructions and plywood shelves. Where to purchase. Wellborn Cabinets sells its kitchen cabinets through retailers. You cannot purchase directly from Wellborn, but if you go to www.wellborn.com, you will find a page which allows you to search for retailers by zip. When I put in my own zip code, nine dealers popped up. In the Houston area, try Precision Cabinet Work, Cabinet Sales, Inc., Kitchen and Bath Wizards, and Old Seabrook Cabinet Company.
Warranty. Wellborn offers a five-year limited warranty on the Select Series for five years from the dealer’s original date of purchase. Wellborn offers a limited lifetime warranty on the Deluxe, Premier and Woodcraft Series to the original consumer purchaser. The “lifetime” is expected to be ten years. Wellborn Cabinet, Inc. warrants the solid wood dovetailed drawer box to the original consumer purchaser for the lifetime of the product. Wellborn Cabinet, Inc. also offers an Exclusive Lifetime Limited Warranty to the original consumer purchaser on the Drawer Suspension Systems and Door Hinges.
