Looking to take up golf? You probably want to start out with clubs that are inexpensive and durable, yet don’t sacrifice quality. This is exactly what I have found with Affinity’s combo sets. For around $130, you can get an entire set consisting of 13 clubs. These include #3-#9 irons, pitching wedge, sand wedge, putter, driver, 5-wood, and 3-wood. What’s great about this set is that the bag styling is not drab. It includes a variety of colors to choose from and comes with pop-out legs to stand the bag up when you’re walking a course. And the entire set is very lightweight, which won’t hurt your shoulders after a long day of carrying it. What’s more, the carry handles have extra padding and include a combination of mesh to allow for air flow.
As a beginner, you undoubtedly want a lighter club that will be more forgiving when you hit the ball wrong. Affinity’s massive woods are just the right size for that, and the shafts are stiffer compared to other more expensive clubs, giving you a better feel on the ball. If you end up choosing clubs with too much flexibility before you get good, you may sacrifice a lot of yardage. Of course, golf is all about mechanics, so if you can’t improve your stance, swing, etc., then there’s no set that will help you play much better. This is why it’s important to get a set of clubs that can withstand abuse as you get better. I found the 3-wood in my Affinity set to be exceptional compared to some other sets I’ve used. You can also get a bunch of hybrid woods and putters for a great price. These clubs are like the Ford trucks of golf. They are built tough, and it takes a lot to damage them.
Another thing about Affinity clubs is that they last. You could probably continue to use the same set for over 10 years without losing much performance, though you’d probably need to change the grips at some point depending upon how much you play. Some of the clubs Affinity offers are more expensive, and I’m sure the more you’re willing to pay, the better the clubs are. But I haven’t seen too many other sets that can be so low maintenance with enduring quality. Obviously we’d all like to own Callaway or TaylorMade clubs, but as a beginner, is it worth spending that much money? I say go ahead and check out Affinity, and you’ll notice that their clubs can rival even some of the most expensive sets out there. They aren’t difficult to get used to, and won’t let you down when the going gets tough. For a small price, these clubs go a long way.
