A Plus-Size Girl’s Guide to Flattering Fashion Looks

Embrace your plus size self as I bet you have a heart to equal your size. Love thyself as you love others. Wear clothes that fit!

With that in mind, no more moo- moos ever. No more big print or huge flowers and polka dots. Do not attempt to wear tapered pants as you run a high risk of looking like an ice cream cone, believe me, I know from past experience. Big print or designs of any kind on big women are not flattering. Think about it. I am a size 18 and do I want to wear big flowers all over my big areas? Guess what- NO- because it emphasizes those big areas. I don’t know about you, but most plus size women prefer to minimize, not maximize their assets.

Where to begin to find flattering plus size attire? Start with yourself and take a long look in your closet. Are you still wearing thread bare clothes because the thought of going clothes shopping is too depressing? Buck up, donate those clothes or toss them out. But do clean out your closet. Are you wearing clothes that are too big, because roomy equates comfort and maybe, at the same time, are hiding your actual size? Roomy does not hide your size- it only accentuates it.

I shop at Cato- it carries both regular size and plus size and they are relatively inexpensive. The styles are in fashion therefore, I do not have to choose between large print and flowers. They are nice and look nice. They fit well. These are clothes made for large women. I am large but I don’t have to look like a barge.
I love Lane Bryant as well, but I don’t like their prices. I should not have to pay excessive prices just to look nice because I am a plus sized woman. Thin women can secure some of the best bargains and I know (or would hope) fabric does not cost that much more to make a size 18 as opposed to an 8.
Catherine’s is also a great place to find nice career dresses and suits, but their casual line is a bit frumpy.

Catalog shopping has hit a boom on retail for plus size women with businesses like Roaman’s or Silhouette’s catering to public shopping hold outs. Both carry some truly hideous clothes, but also some nice ones as well.

My friend once told me, it doesn’t matter how big I thought I looked in an outfit, someone else was out there who was bigger than me and someone was out there bigger than her, and so on and so on. So I should flaunt what I have because it’s all me.
Since then I have ceased wearing the frumpy and roomy clothes. I wear clothes that according to Stacy and Clinton on TLC’s What Not to Wear flatter my figure the most. And you know something- watch that show because they are not wrong!
