Restaurant Review: Fremont, Ohio’s Peking Restaurant

Queen Goddess, Sweet and Sour Chicken, Yeast Rolls

We love to eat in owner-operated restaurants. We also, like most folks, have a few favorites that bring a special feeling of safe comfort every time we dine there. Gasoline is over $3.00 a gallon again so we also feel the need to conserve the precious few gallons in our budget. My Queen Goddess has a special passion fer Chinese food so one of our favorite haunts is the Peking Restaurant. Located at 2101 W. State St in Fremont, Ohio it’s easy to find and has good parkin’. The ramps into the buildin’ are a bit steep but negotiable even fer fat one legged folks like me. Peking is open Sunday through Thursday 11 am till 9 pm, Friday and Saturday 11 am till 10 pm. Give ’em a call fer info or carry out @ 419-334-2334

We enter into a typical Oriental designed dining room. The bright colors and murals on the walls enhance the meal we are about to eat. They do have a small party room fer those special events in your life. We were blessed with a family gatherin’ there several years ago that was extra special. We also always seem to encounter old friends at Peking’s. This day we were blessed with a friendly Hello from an ole SJCC friend, Ed Raubenolt and his bride, they too enjoy the good food and friendly ambiance of this special place.

We began this special evening with a pot of tea and an order of Crab Rangoon. It was a perfect beginnin’ to an evenin’ filled with intimate conversation and good food. My Queen Goddess ordered her almost always choice of a Sweet and Sour chicken combo plate, it comes with choice of soup (always Wonton fer Bonnie), egg roll, a huge yeast dinner roll and of course the fortune cookie. The norm is it’s excellent and there is enough fer her lunch at work the next day. Bonnie always remarks how her daughter Cat loved this place and the yeast rolls. Cat is now living in Wyoming and can’t find good sweet and sour chicken or these yeast rolls.

My only objection to this place is my inability to communicate well with the servers. I love Hot and Spicy food and most servers don’t hear me or understand me when I say I want it hot enough to melt the wax in my ears, singe the lint in my navel and raise my skin temp by 10 degrees. I went through my usual routine when I ordered the curry chicken, I even asked fer some of those little red peppers to be added. Tonight I finally found a server that listened and it was delightful. I also ordered two egg rolls (one fer Bonnie’s lunch tomorrow) and a cup of Hot and Sour soup.

The fortune cookies are my dessert but my Queen Goddess will wait fer a Peanut Buster Parfait from Dairy Queen on the way home. Well folks we did it again. Dinner, beverages, sales tax, a generous gratuity, and a trip to Dairy Queen fer under $35. If you’re hungry fer good Chinese, good service, and friends try Peking. If we’re not there yet tell ’em Bubba and Bonnie sent ya.
