Top 10 NBA Players Born in Alabama

When you think of basketball states you normally don’t think about Alabama right away but Alabama has proven to produce a nice pool of NBA talent over the years. Here is a list of the top 10 NBA players that have come from the state of Alabama. The top 10 was decided by stats and longevity. Listed are the players’ stats along with the city they were born in.

1. Charles Barkley- Barkley is now an NBA analyst and always has time to voice his opinion. Barkley has had a great NBA career that includes averaging a double-double. Barkley played in the NBA from 1985-2000 and has career averages of 22.1 points, 11.7 rebounds, and 3.9 assists per game. Charles Barkley was born in Leeds.

2. Larry Kenon- Kenon played in the NBA 10 seasons from 1974-1983. Kenon was from Birmingham and had career averages of 17.2 points and 8.9 rebounds per game.

3. Derrick Coleman- Coleman was taken first in the NBA draft and was actually considered to be a bust in the NBA. Coleman had impressive stats that make you wonder what the critics were talking about. Coleman finished his NBA career after 16 NBA seasons and averaged 16.5 points and 9.3 rebounds per game. Coleman played in the NBA from 1991-2005. Coleman grew up in Mobile, Alabama.

4. John Drew- Drew is second in scoring out of the top 10 and played 11 NBA seasons. Drew finished his career with averages of 20.7 points and 6.9 rebounds. Drew grew up in Vredenburg and retired in 1985.

5. Jeff Malone- Malone played 13 NBA seasons from 1984-1996. Malone is also from Mobile and posted career averages of 19 points, 2.6 rebounds, and 2.4 assists per game.

6. Andrew Toney- Toney played 8 seasons in the NBA from 1981-1988 and finished his career with averages of 15.9 points, 2.2 rebounds, and 4.2 assists per game. Toney was from Birmingham, Alabama.

7. Chuck Person- Person played 14 NBA seasons from 1987-2000. Chuck was from Brantley and had career averages of 14.7 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 2.8 assists per game.

8. Travis Grant- Grant only played 4 NBA seasons from 1973-1976 but still makes the list due to his averages during that time. Grant finished his NBA career with averages of 13.8 points and 4.1 rebounds per game. Grant was born in Clayton.

9. Gerald Wallace- Wallace was born in Sylacauga and began playing in 2002. Wallace has had the potential to break out and become a star but has yet to do so. Wallace has career averages of 12 points and 5.2 rebounds per game.

10. Curtis Rowe- Rowe was impressive on the glass by averaging 7.2 rebounds and throw in 11.6 points per game and he has the number 10 spot. Rowe played 8 NBA seasons from 1972-1979 before retiring. Rowe was born in Bessemer.
