7 Great Activities for Babysitters to Do with 3 Year Old Children

Babysitters, Babysitting

I’ve been a babysitter for over 10 years now and have worked with a variety of ages. Some children are more active than others and sometimes it can be difficult for a babysitter to come up with interactive activities that will keep children happy. A lot of times sitters turn to the television or movies to entertain a child, but more often than not the parents want you to keep their kids off the couch and have them participate in other activities. Here are 7 Great Activities for Babysitters to do with 3 year old Children:

Babysitting Activity for 3 year olds #1: Read a storybook

Every child enjoys hearing you read a story and looking through the graphic pictures that bring that story to life. 3 Year olds have great imaginations and the stories you read them will help to grow their little minds a little bit more.

Babysitting Activity for 3 year olds #2: Take a Walk with the Stroller

Sometimes you and the child need a break from the house, especially if you spend the majority of the day with them there. Get the stroller out and take the 3 year old you are watching for a walk. While walking you can point out fun things to look at, such as animals and different types of flowers, cars, and buildings.

Babysitting Activity for 3 year olds #3: Go Play at the Park

Going to play at the park is another great way to get out of the house with 3 year olds and let them burn some energy. Even though they may be too small to play on the big kid’s playground, you can still let them swing in a smaller swing or play in the sand.

Babysitting Activity for 3 year olds #4: Do a Puzzle

Doing puzzles with 3 year olds is a great way to help them learn while still doing something fun. You can get puzzles with different shapes and colors that you can point out to them or you can just put together a picture from one of their favorite movies or shows.

Babysitting Activity for 3 year olds #5: Color a Picture

Coloring is one of the classic go-to activities for babysitters to do with children. Most children ages 3 and up can color without making too big of a mess. Simply stick a placemat under the child’s picture and let them color away. You can even join them and color your own picture!

Babysitting Activity for 3 year olds #6: Build with Blocks

Most 3 year olds have some type of blocks laying around their house. Whether it be leggos, wooden blocks, soft blocks, or some other type of blocks, you can always build new things with them. This is a fun activity that the child and you can both enjoy.

Babysitting Activity for 3 year olds #7: Play with Stuffed Animals and other Toys

If all else fails, you can always play with the child’s favorite animals and other toys. Most 3 year olds have a stuffed animal that they cling to, as well as other toys that they love.

Try out one of these activities next time you babysit a 3 year old- you’ll find that everyone is entertained and the parents will be happy that you are keeping their child active and away from the television.
