2010 CD Releases: The Superstars Return

Big Boi

2010 is shaping up to be a great year for music. We’ll be getting new music from artists that owned the last decade. In the music industry timing is everything and you can tell that some of these discs have been held so that they can get a 2010 release date. There are a few that I will purchase as soon as they are released because I expect them to completely satisfy me. I am sure that I won’t be disappointed.

Grammy award winner, Sade is releasing her first album since “Lover’s Rock” was released in 2000. The “Soldier of Love” single was released in December 2009 and is already the buzz on the internet as it has a familiar mood to some of her other songs. Her sultry voice is one of my favorite in all of music for the simple fact that she sings to you and lets you experience her thoughts with her. There is nothing artificial about Sade Adu and if there is then I hope she never changes like she never ages. The “Soldier of Love” CD is scheduled for release on February 8, 2010 through Epic Records.

Hit machine, Beyonce, is quietly working on a new project for 2010. Rodney “Darkchild” Jerkins has mentioned that he is working with her via his Twitter page and he is not one to lie about a project. I must admit that I initially wasn’t a fan of the double platinum “I Am…Sasha Fierce” when it was released as it sounded like a girl power CD, but the hits just kept on coming. I don’t expect anything less from the upcoming effort.

Look out for a familiar vibe from the neo soul enigma Erykah Badu, as she releases her sixth studio album, “New Amerykah, Part II: Return of the Ankh,” on Feb. 23, 2010 on Universal Motown. Her last release was a funky, politcally conscious record sold to her fan base, but never reached gold status. She is returning to that familiar topic of love and revisiting some old tracks from a different perspective. Having met Erykah in Atlanta and knowing that she is a workaholic it won’t be surprising if she holds to her promise of releasing 2 CDs in 2010. I say, “Why not?”

Now for the men…even with his single “Papers” quietly buzzing on the radio, Usher Raymond has pushed back his newest CD. “Raymond v. Raymond” is being pushed from a December 2009 release date to a tentative date in March 2010. I can’t tell if the heartache of the divorce is holding up the CD or if it is trying to top 2004’s “Confessions” which sold almost ten million copies. Whatever the situation is, Jive is willing to wait to release Usher’s CD when they get ready. I guess we’ll just have to get by with his current collab with Trey Songz and Keri Hilson on the “I Invented Sex” remix for a while.

Lastly, Andre “Big Boi” Patton will be releasing “Sir Lucious Left Foot: The Son of Chico Dusty.” The effort will be a musical carnival as he has worked with artists like, T.I., Mary J. Blige, Lil Jon, Jamie Foxx, Gucci Mane, and Too $hort over the last two years on the project. Of course it wouldn’t be right if Andre 3000 didn’t have a cameo as well…we shall see what the boys for OUTKAST have in store for us in 2010.
