10 Tasty Toast Toppings, Butters, Jam, Cream Cheese, Tomato and More

Apple Butter, Garlic Butter

Although the Atkins Diet is the diet of choice for many Americans, I cannot live without bread. I especially love to have toast everyday with my morning coffee. Here are ten of my favorite tasty toast toppings.

#1 Butter

Although it may seem obvious, toast is delicious with a simple coating of butter or margarine and it goes well with any breakfast foods including fruits, cereals, eggs, or breakfast meats.

#2 Garlic Butter

I like to butter my toast and to give it a little flavor, I add a sprinkle of garlic salt or garlic butter. Although I often enjoy this variation at breakfast, it can also be a great addition to a pasta meal and it is easy to prepare.

#3 Tomato

To give your morning toast some added flavor and nutrition, slice a tomato and top a piece of buttered toast with it. I love to eat toast this way.

#4 Cinnamon

After buttering your toast, add some sweetness with a sprinkle of cinnamon or cinnamon sugar. I like to eat my toast this way on occasion because I satisfy my sweet tooth without consuming too many calories.

#5 Cream Cheese

Although most of us associate cream cheese with bagels, I like to use fat free cream cheese on my toast as well. It tastes great and it can make a quick piece of morning toast feel more like a meal.

#6 Peanut Butter

Peanut Butter is a great topping on toast. You can add a spoonful of peanut butter to your morning toast for some added protein and flavor, or I like to eat toast with peanut butter once in a while as a snack later in the day.

#7 Jam

I am not a huge fan of jellies and jams, but I do enjoy strawberry on occasion. I only use a tiny bit and I always butter the bread first. Jam, like cinnamon, can also satisfy a craving for something sweet.

#8 Apple Butter

Apple Butter is a guilty pleasure of mine, but I do not eat it too often because it contains a lot of sugar and I try to limit my sugar intake. However, it is quite delicious and I like it on toast as a snack or for breakfast.

#9 Olive Oil

My husband uses olive oil quite often, and sometime he will brush a little olive oil on a piece of toast. It tastes great and since olive oil is a healthy fat in moderation, it is good for you too.

#10 Cheese

I don’t eat regular sliced cheese anymore, but when I was younger, I loved putting a slice of American cheese on a piece of buttered toast that was still hot from the toaster. If you put the cheese on quickly enough, it will slightly melt, giving you half a grilled cheese sandwich that is great for breakfast or a snack.
