WWE Flashback: Best and Worst of Survivor Series 1990

1990s, Bret Hart, Survivor Series, Ted Dibiase, Worst Moments

In 1990 the WWE tried something new for their annual Survivor Series pay per view. For the first time ever all the survivors in each Survivor Series match will be entered into a final Survivor Series match at the end of the night to decide the ultimate survivors. Would the new concept be a good idea? Let’s take a look at the best and worst moments of Survivor Series 1990.

Best Match of Survivor Series 1990
The Million Dollar Team vs. The Dream Team
– This Survivor Series begins with the debut of the Undertaker. The Hart Foundation make Rhythm and Blues look like a million bucks, Ted Diabiase and Dusty Rhodes have a good encounter and the match ends with probably the best one-on-one confrontation so far in a Survivor Series when Ted Dibiase faces Bret Hart.

Worst Match of Survivor Series 1990
The Alliance vs. The Mercenaries
– I’ve never been a big fan of angles with foreign countries fighting with the United Stats other than the Hart Foundation so this match was doomed from the beginning. It didn’t help that the match was horrible.

Best Performer of Survivor Series 1990
Bret Hart
– Bret Hart showed why he is the excellence of execution in his Survivor Series match. Bret Hart was the first one to go toe to toe with the Undertaker, along with his tag team partner Jim Neidhart, he eliminated both members of Rhythm and Blues and he finished out the match against Ted Dibiase.

The Visionaries – The Visionaries became the first team in Survivor Series history to not have a single member of their team eliminated and even though I don’t particularly care for Rick Martel, Warlord, Hercules or Paul Roma, the match wasn’t too bad.

Worst Performer of Survivor Series 1990
Sgt. Slaughter
– The heel turn by Sgt. Slaughter might have been a good heel turn because he was an American who turned anti-American but Sgt. Slaughter’s performance as a heel is completely awful.

Best Moment of Survivor Series 1990
The Undertaker
– The debut of the Undertaker went down in history as one of the all-time great Survivor Series moments. A lot of the monsters that came along through the years like Giant Gonzales and Bastion Booger were just ridiculous but when The Undertaker walked the aisle for the first time the fans in the arena seriously looked kind of spooked.

Worst Moment of Survivor Series 1990
Gobbledygooker – The Undertaker debut was one of the best moments in Survivor Series history but the Gobbledygooker will go down in history as the single worst moment in Survivor Series history. For weeks leading up to Survivor Series 1990 there was an egg and it was a mystery what was inside. Mean Gene said who knows what it is; it could be a dinosaur, a pig, or even balloons (because we all know that pigs and balloons originate from eggs). It turned out to be a man dressed in the most ridiculous turkey costume ever constructed. In one of the queerest moments in WWE history the Gobbledygooker then took Mean Gene by the hand, led him to the ring, and they danced for about 15 minutes.
