Wilkes Barre Farmer’s Market a Local Favorite in Pennsylvania

farmer's markets

The City of Wilkes Barre’s Farmer’s Market will begin it’s season on Thursday June 28th 2007. This event is an all around favorite with the residents and visitors of Wilkes Barre. The Market is held every Thursday from ten thirty a.m. to four p.m. on Public Square, which is the heart of downtown Wilkes Barre. The market features fresh produce from local farmers who live and work on their farms. There are vendors that sell fruit, vegetables, juice, dairy products, beverages, plants, flowers and baked goods. During the hours of the market area bands and performers will entertain you as you take a leisurely stroll through the many stands of the vendors.

Each Thursday starting June 28th until the middle of November the Farmers Market will be filled with people greeting each other, while they stop to browse, shop and eat. Local farmers will be proudly showing off their products while they have friendly chats with their potential buyers. This local event is a fantastic place for residents and visitors not only to purchase freshly picked produce, but it is also a place to make new friends and help our community.

Walking through the Farmers Market is so much pleasant than walking through a crowded stuffy supermarket. You get to enjoy the fresh air and sunshine while listening to live music bellowing from the bandstand. You will come across all kinds of interesting items being sold by the vendors everything from handmade soap to all sorts of handcrafted items. Of course there is fruit, vegetables, plants, herbs and flowers that unlike food chains this produce is locally grown, chemical and pesticide free.

A favorite of mine at the market is the fresh picked sweet corn. I swear it is the sweetest and most tender corn I have eaten. It’s like heaven when you sink you teeth into the tender kernels drizzled with melted butter and salt. The vegetables are always so much fresher tasting than what you pick up at the local super markets. After buying produce from these local farmers you will never want to buy store bought produce again. If your are looking for a break from the busy hectic atmosphere of a shopping mall, make a visit to your local Farmers Market. Whether it is the Wilkes Barre Farmers Market or a Farmers Market located in your town, you will find it a nice change. It’s a chance to meet wonderful new people, while purchasing healthy fresh produce for yourself and your family.
