Why the Oscars Just Gave Seth MacFarlane a “giggidy Giggidy Goo” Birthday Present!

Oct. 1, 2012, just became a very significant date for animation fans, for this was the day that the Academy Awards just announced Seth MacFarlane as the host of their annual celebration! Can you believe it? “Stewie” is actually going to the Oscars. It’s truly a perfectly silly and magical thing of beauty for comedy lovers, as well as a pretty cool “giggidy giggidy goo” birthday present, too!

Bryan Ferry wants his dinner jacket back
MacFarlane is everywhere these days. He was awesome as the “Saturday Night Live” host, and at the Emmy Awards, when he came out wearing a white dinner jacket (ala Bryan Ferry), he was not only smokin’ hot, but recovered quickly once he realized he was speaking into a non-working microphone. The man is fast on his feet, sexy in a tux, sings and does funny voices – what more can you ask for an Oscar emcee?

In recognition of the “Family Guy” creator’s prestigious honor, here are just a few of Seth MacFarlane’s shining moments in television:

Comedy Central Roast of Donald Trump
In a recent “Comedy Central Roast of Donald Trump,” not only did he kill in his mogul bashing monologue, but MacFarlane actually predicted his own future – “I smoked a lot of pot and clearly don’t give a s**t about this show, so I am perfect to host this and the Oscars.” Sassy and clairvoyant!

Harvard University Speech
There are not too many people who can successfully pull off a speech as a goofy cartoon character at a highly-respected university, but MacFarlane did, with hilarious results.

During a ceremony at Harvard, “Stewie” told the students, “boys can be boys, girls can be girls and those in between can create student groups to feel better about their lack of romantic options.” When the pint-sized smart aleck reminded the brainy audience that they have only one day left till graduation, so they better get started if they want to axe their roommate in order to get straight A’s, it was the kind of controversy that could really shake things up on the Red Carpet.

“Saturday Night Live”
As the “SNL” emcee for the 2012 premiere episode, Seth MacFarlane utilized his considerable talents, with an amusing opening set that featured several of his “Family Guy” characters, while it showcased his impressive singing abilities. During the show’s skits, Mac displayed his trademark charm and comedic timing, as well as an infectious, joyful personality that lit up the program.

Happy birthday, Mr. Mac!
As a huge fan of Seth MacFarlane, and his clever, often times naughty “American Dad,” “Family Guy” and “The Cleveland Show,” I could not be more thrilled to see that the Oscars have enough confidence to turn over the reigns to this smart, gifted man. He deserves it, and just like his other gigs, I’m sure he’s going to a be a hilarious, highly-entertaining host.

MacFarlane turns 39 in a few weeks, and he can now thank the Academy for giving him a most excellent birthday present. And just think, I’m pretty sure he didn’t even have to say, “whose leg do I have to hump around here to get a dry martini?…” or a shot at hosting one of the biggest nights in television history.
