Who’s Who in ‘Resident Evil: Retribution’

Milla Jovovich returns to the big screen in the fifth installment of the zombie franchise ‘Resident Evil,’ “Resident Evil: Retribution.” Over the first four films, dozens of characters have been introduced and dispatched in the ‘Resident Evil’ universe and now a few of them will be coming back; this is a zombie movie after all.

Here is a handy guide to the characters in “Resident Evil: Retribution.”

Alice – Milla Jovovich

Returning for the fifth time as zombie hunter and clone fan Alice is former model turned sci-fi action hero Milla Jovovich. Alice was introduced in 2002’s “Resident Evil” as a guardian of ‘The Hive,’ a secret installation of the evil Umbrella Corporation. Once Alice discovered that Umbrella was making illegal experiments that accidentally turned most of her co-workers into flesh craving zombies she became Umbrella’s greatest enemy.

For their part, Umbrella helped Alice by giving her super-powers at the end of “Resident Evil,” including super speed, agility, strength, and accuracy with a weapon all of which has come in handy over five zombie killing, Umbrella executive hunting adventures.

Jill Valentine – Sienna Guillory

Jill Valentine was introduced to the ‘Resident Evil’ movie universe in 2004’s “Resident Evil: Apocalypse,” though she was one of the original characters in the video game that inspired the film series. Jill is a police officer who joined Alice’s battle against the Umbrella Corporation after Alice saved her from a zombie attack. Jill disappeared when Sienna Guillory could not reach a contract agreement with the producers of “Resident Evil: Extinction” in 2007. She returned however, for a cameo at the end of “Resident Evil: Afterlife” where it was revealed that she had been captured and is now under the control of the Umbrella Corporation. Jill is the big bad guy in “Resident Evil: Retribution.”

Rain Ocampo – Michelle Rodriguez

Rain Ocampo was a mercenary for hire working security for the Umbrella Corporation in the original “Resident Evil.” Rain was killed with a bullet to the head after being bitten by a zombie and was thought to have been blown to pieces. Evidently there were enough pieces left for Umbrella scientists who have cloned three Rain’s for “Resident Evil: Retribution,” a good Rain, fighting alongside Alice, a bad Rain on the side of Jill Valentine, and a zombie Rain.

Dr. Sam Isaacs – Iain Glenn

Dr. Sam Isaacs is the Umbrella Scientist who created the T-Virus, the cause of the zombie outbreak. Dr. Isaacs is also the scientist who accidentally gave Alice super-powers when he fused her DNA with the T-Virus in a vain attempt at finding a cure and covering up the mess Umbrella created. One of his super-zombies created specifically to kill Alice eventually bites Dr. Isaacs. After injecting himself repeatedly with anti-virus Isaacs morphs into a Tyrant, something only fans of the videogame would recognize. Alice later kills him in battle but his Tyrant clone will be back for “Resident Evil: Retribution.”

Albert Wesker – Jason O’Mara and Shawn Roberts

Albert Wesker is the President of the Umbrella Corporation. Wesker ordered the cover up of the T-Virus outbreak and is now using the outbreak as an opportunity to take over the world. Wesker was played by Jason O’Mara in “Resident Evil: Extinction” but TV commitments removed O’Mara from “Resident Evil: Afterlife.” Shawn Roberts took the role in ‘Afterlife’ and will reprise the role in “Resident Evil: Retribution.”
