Where to Volunteer in Tucson, Arizona #2: Old Pueblo Trolley
Old Pueblo Trolley Volunteers can help restore trolleys by fixing them up as they originally were. There is more work to do then restore trolleys. You can help operate trolley cars and busses, be a conductor on a trolley car, become a docent (training required) and give detailed informational tours, historical research, fundraising, and once you’re fully trained, you can begin to train others. Tohono Chul Park is well known for their beautiful botanical gardens. Volunteers are needed to help maintain the park as well as work in the Museum gift shop, help in the greenhouse, work at special events, assist at the Plant sale, Become a docent, fundraise and/or work in the office doing clerical work. Big Brothers and Big Sisters are a special friend in a child’s life. Where to Volunteer in Tucson, Arizona #5: Tucson Urban League, Inc.
Tucson Urban League, Inc. is located at 2305 S. Park Ave. Tucson, AZ 85713. They need help with Case Management. As a Case Management Volunteer, you will be doing data entry, retrieving calls and returning phone calls. They also need an experienced volunteer who can teach youth how to use basic computer programs. Potential volunteers must pass a drug test and have a background check done. Where to Volunteer in Tucson, Arizona #6: Reid Park Zoo
If you enjoy being around animals, volunteering with the Reid Park Zoo may be a good way to spend your time. There are several volunteer jobs to do. You can be a trained docent and lead tours, give information about certain animals and exhibits, etc. If being a docent is not something you’re interested in, you can welcome school groups, work in the information center, help kids with crafts, and work at special events. They do not allow volunteers to work directly with the animals but you would get to see the animals at the zoo anytime that you volunteered. To become a volunteer, you have to be at least 18, attend an orientation session, and agree to volunteer at least 10 hours a month for 1 year. The YMCA has several locations in Tucson and you can volunteer at any one of them. They need Program Volunteers (coaching, helping with childcare, etc), Philanthropy Volunteers (help raise money for the YMCA and work at special events), Advisory Volunteers (making the YMCA aware of important issues), and Policy Volunteers (serve on the committee, help make decisions).
