Whatever Happened to Topher Grace?

Laura Prepon, October Road, That 70's Show, Wilmer Valderrama

He comes into your living room several times a day, but who knows if you even know who he is. For fans of syndicated television, Topher Grace and “the gang” has been a staple on the airwaves for a bunch of years. While “That 70’s Show,” was limited in scope to what amounted to a teen coming of age family dramedy featuring a bunch of toked out kids (and Tommy Chong) doing what kids did in the 1970’s (err…I guess) the constant barrage of broadcasts from basic cable providers and the Fox network make That 70’s Show tolerable enough to, you know, have dinner to, or zone out in front of at the end of the day. It’s a little bit like Married With Children was back in the day; it may offend some of your instincts, but the laugh track keeps it going.

So today, while doing something else totally unrelated with the television on in the background, it suddenly occurred to me; whatever happened to Topher Grace? I mean, the rest of the cast of that show is fairly well accounted for; Ashton Kutcher married Demi Moore; Wilmer Valderrama got dumped by Lindsay Lohan for a girl; Mila Kunis is on Family Guy and all kinds of movies including the upcoming “Book of Eli;” Danny Masterson is doing….Hyde worthy projects; Laura Prepon dyed her hair blonde and has been doing television including “How I Met Your Mother,” and “October Road;” but what about Topher Grace? Whatever happened to Topher Grace?

A quick purview over his IMDB profile makes it apparent that the actor has indeed been busy honing his craft; I just thought he was supposed to be, like, this breakout leading role man. I saw him in that movie with Dennis Quaid, “In Good Company;” he was really good in that. So where the heck has he been?!?

I was surprised to look back and find that “In Good Company” was from 2004! Geesh! Where does the time go, eh? Topher Grace has been in some things; an episode of The Simpsons in 2008, Spider-Man 3 of course, but really his presence around the way has been limited, at best.

2010 looks to be a promising year for the old Eric Forman, Mr. Grace. According to IMDB, at the time of this writing there is a rumor that Grace will be in the film “Keep Coming Back;” he’s also already filmed a few projects including a remake of Predator, Valentine’s Day, and Young American’s; a film which he’s one of the writers and apparently a co-producer. Come to think of it, my wife filmed a scene in Valentine’s Day over the summer; at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery; overnight; she did tell me that Topher Grace was in this cast.

So keep an eye out for Topher Grace to be back in your living room and “spotted” by TMZ and the tabloids soon. Who knows, maybe you’ll even see Topher Grace and my wife in Valentine’s Day! Now that would be something.
