What is Hypoparathyroidism?

Bad Teeth, Low Iron, Neck Surgery

Your parathyroid glands are four small glands located just outside of the thyroid glands in your neck.

With Hypoparathyroidism you have low levels of calcium in the blood. This is due to low levels of parathyroid hormone. It can be associated with other endocrine disorders, result from neck surgery, which is most common or inherited which is rare. Both men and women are affected in equal numbers. The exact cause of Hypoparathyroidism is unknown but studies are ongoing and they continue to search for the exact cause and a cure.

Hypoparathyroidism symptoms are weakness of the body, spasms (tetany) and muscle cramps, tingling (pins and needles sensation) and numbness of body parts; forgetfulness and memory loss; you can’t concentrate, horrible headaches, uncontrollable and painful cramping muscle movements of the wrists, hands, feet and other body parts. Other symptoms may be tetany of the facial muscles, tingling of face and lips, bad teeth and extremely low iron can arise in some cases; this is a serious disease and can be life treating if untreated. If you have any of these symptoms or feel that your might have Hypoparathyroidism contact for doctor. Since this illness is regularly misdiagnosed and over looked. I recommend you to request these blood test to be drawn, Serum Magnesium, Serum Calcium, Ionized Calcium, Serum Phosphorous, Parathyroid hormone (pth).

I personally went through many years of symptoms without being correctly diagnosed. After I gave birth to my daughter my illness was thrown into a fully active state. I was having severe muscle spasms, pain, severe fatigue, depression, and headaches the list can go on and on. I went to doctor after doctor and they could not figure it out. To be honest they started to make me think I was crazy and it was all in my head. I could not comprehend why these things where happening to me. I thought I was losing my mind. I finally found a wonderful man named Dr. Rene Harper who ran the right tests and correctly diagnosed me. He reassured me that I am sane and indeed have Hypoparathyroidism. This goes to show that you know your body better than anyone, and if you feel that there is something going on And the doctor can’t put his finger on it get a second opinion.. You can’t give up hope on the medical profession. I am now medicated to treat my illness but still have symptoms. This is an illness that I will have the rest of my life. But I do have hope now that I know that this is an illness that has a treatment. Hopefully, one day they will find a cure. I am not a doctor and this is not met to replace a doctor’s diagnosis. Please seek medical advice if you have medical concerns.
