Weird and Wacky Holidays in August

Bad Poetry, Boss Day, Fun Websites

It’s hot, hot, hot! We’re in the dog days of summer so it’s time to celebrate the weird and wacky holidays of August.

Mark your calendars for Sunday, August 1st. It’s Friendship Day, and also Sister Day. Celebrate these weird and wacky holidays to show your appreciation of your special friends and sisters. Call them, spend the day with them, or send them a card or email message. If you’re like me, your sisters are your friends. Remember that old Girl Scout song? “Make new friends and keep the old, one is silver and the other gold!”

Hooray! August 4th is National Chocolate Chip Day. To celebrate, bake up a batch of chocolate chip cookies and enjoy!

August 6th is National Fresh Breath Day. Celebrate by brushing, flossing, and caring for your pearly whites and your tongue…today and EVERYDAY! Nobody wants to smell bad breath, so don’t make this a stinky holiday.

August 8th is Sneak Some Zucchini Onto Your Neighbor’s Porch Night. I love visualizing this holiday! Surprise your neighbor with a bag of zucchini…they may not want them so you’ll have to do this in the dark of night. Shhhhh!

Hey, Boomers! On August 12th get out your old vinyl records to celebrate Vinyl Record Day. Sing along and dance to the oldies with your old Boomer friends!

August 13th isn’t one of the weird and wacky holidays but a curious happening in the year 2010. There is only one Friday the 13th this year, and it’s in August! It’s also a special day for my weird and wacky sister. Happy Birthday Cookie! Love ya.

August 14th is National Garage Sale Day. This is one of those weird and wacky holidays that will get you busy digging out all of that ‘stuff’ that you don’t want anymore. Clean the closets, drawers, attic, basement, and garage and hold a Garage Sale. Remember: One person’s junk is another person’s treasures!

August 18th is Bad Poetry Day. I challenge all Associated Content Contributors to write a really bad poem to celebrate. Be sure to let readers know that you wrote the rotten verse to celebrate this weird and wacky holiday so you don’t wreck your reputation as a poet. Think of the English teachers of your past while you’re writing.

August 21st is Hug Your Boss Day. Ahhh! Show the love at work by giving the big guy, or gal, a great, big hug. What? You don’t want to celebrate?

August 28th is Crackers Over The Keyboard Day. This is meant to be celebrated by disgruntled workers. WARNING: By no means should this holiday be celebrated at home!
