Veterinary Technician Schools in Texas

Are you exploring careers? Are you thinking about becoming a veterinary technician? Are you looking for a college in Texas that offers a Vet Tech two year training program? Here are a few Texas schools that have veterinary technology programs. All of these schools are accredited by the AVMA.

Midland College

Midland College, located in Midland about two hours south of Lubbock, has a fantastic program. It is a two year educational track that provides “skills and concepts consistent with the Certified Veterinary Technician Educators Association (CVETA) guidelines.” Classes include veterinary anatomy and physiology, veterinary radiology, chemistry, and more. Palo Alto College

Another AVMA accredited vet tech program is Palo Alto College, located in San Antonio. It was started in 1996 and received full accreditation in 2004.They accept about 50 students per year. McLennan Community College

A third program to consider is McLennan Community College. It is a 72 hour program that is usually completed within six semesters, however you have up to five years to finish it. It’s mission is to “prepare the student to be an asset to a veterinary practice, biomedical research facility, agricultural industry or other animal care and/or treatment facility by providing effective academic course work, classroom training and hands-on animal care and handling experience.” They accept a maximum of 30 students per year. Cedar Valley College

A fourth school, which has both an on-campus program and distance-learning school, is Cedar Valley College. It is located in Lancaster, which is south of Downtown Dallas. It has been fully accredited since 1978. It is an associated degree program that consists of 72 hours of study. They also have a veterinary assistant certificate program. Lonestar College

Lonestar College, located near Houston in The Woodlands, also has an accredited Veterinary Technician program. It has been help aspiring vet tech’s succeed since 1988.
