Unique Side Table Decor for a Great Room

Side Table, Table Decor, Trinkets

A side table in a great room is typically used to hold a source of mid range lighting as well as a few items of interest, but it is not usually the focal point of the room. Many people continue to use the same trinkets and decor throughout the home year after year, even if they have little to no aesthetic value. Random decor is usually comprised of stray collectables in a specific theme or something that once caught the eye. Eventually it becomes necessary to clean house, but not in the conventional way.

Keep items of sentimental value in the bedroom or in a display case, and donate old trinkets that do nothing to enhance the style of the space. Improve the overall look of your great room with unique new side table decor. After all, a great room is not considered great when it is adorned with mismatched knickknacks and trinkets of very little decorative worth.

Take Your Time and Find Something Truly Unique

The biggest mistake that people make when decorating a great room or any area of the home is haste. They get in too big of a hurry when trying to fill the space, and they buy furnishings and decor that do nothing to enhance the space. In other cases they repurpose knickknacks from the bedroom or another area of the home, and the items are not usually the best choices.

Before starting my home decorating career I was guilty of hastily buying decor and using repurposed items from my teenage years. After buying wall hangings and knickknacks and giving them away time and time again, I realized that it was best to wait for the right items to come along. By taking my time I ended up with unique and eye catching great room side table decor instead of items that simply take up space.

Add an Eye-Catching Lamp

When looking for unique side table decor for your great room, shop for an eye catching lamp in a style of your choice. I have always loved the colors and designs of Tiffany lamps. I ended up giving away my old jar-style lamp with a cheap paper shade, and I bought a Tiffany lamp to replace it. The Tiffany lamp was the perfect addition to my great room side table, and it was highly unique. I found it in a high end resale shop in town, and I knew upon first glance that I had to have it to decorate a great room side table.

Find a Book with a Title That Makes a Bold Statement

Unique side table decor for a great room goes far beyond knickknacks and tabletop works of art. Make a bold statement with a book. Look for a hardback book of the appropriate size or select a trio of books. They will beautifully embellish a side table while enhancing the appeal of the space. They can be placed alongside of a lamp to add color and textual interest to the great room decorating scheme.

Decorate a Great Room Side Table with a Quality Collectible

Use unique quality items when decorating your great room side table. If collectibles are the subject of the decorating scheme, choose something worthy of a front row display. In any case, keep in mind that quantity does not equal quality. Select a few cherished pieces instead of several lower quality items. As previously mentioned, take your time when looking for side table decor. Your great room will live up to the title of being great instead of second rate.
