Seaside Inspired Summer Welcome Wreath

Whether you live on the beach or you just took a family vacation and want to showcase some of the beautiful sea shells that you found on the beach this seaside inspired summer wreath is the perfect DIY project for you. The children will enjoy helping you pick the perfect shells for the wreath and the outcome is a beautiful welcome wreath that you can place on your front door to cherish throughout the summer months.

Seaside Summer Wreath Materials:

Woven Wreath or enough branches to weave your own wreath if you feel so crafty

Seashells, sand dollars, starfish, ocean inspired items

Hot Glue Gun

Wire

Welcome lettering whether in whole form or decorative letters to add to the wreath

Seaside Summer Wreath Step 1: If you are weaving the wreath on your own then this will be the first step to the project, otherwise, the first step is to begin choosing shells to place on the wreath.

Seaside Summer Wreath Step 2: For a wreath that is darkly colored you may wish to spray paint the wreath in a neutral sandy tone before beginning the project but this is strictly a matter of choice.

Seaside Summer Wreath Step 3: Begin by attaching the welcome greeting to the summer wreath. The greeting can either be glued to the upper portion of the wreath or to the bottom portion. I prefer placing the welcome greeting on the upper portion of the wreath. Glue the letters to the wreath or if you can find a welcome greeting that is in wire form you can hang it from the top center of the wreath.

Seaside Summer Wreath Step 4: Glue shells to the wreath in a scattered form. Large shells should be chosen first and glued around the wreath. A starfish or two can also be placed on the wreath. Using the hot glue gun carefully place a small amount of glue on the area of the summer wreath that you plan to decorate and then place the shell into the glue.

Seaside Summer Wreath Step 5: Once you have placed a layer of large shells onto the wreath you may begin filling in areas with smaller shells. For a more layered look, try filling in empty areas and then laying additional shells over top of the small and medium shells to form multiple layers to the seaside wreath.

Seaside Summer Wreath Step 6: Using the wire, create a hanger for the seaside wreath. The wreath may be slightly heavy with all the shells depending on the types of shells and the sizes of them. Make sure that the wire is strong enough to hold the wreath. Tie the wire on each end 3-5 inches apart onto the wreath. This will create a sturdy hanger for the seaside inspired wreath.

Seaside Summer Wreath Step 7: Hang the seaside inspire wreath on the front door. If you have a wreath hanger that is of metal type then you can omit the step of using wire to create a hanger for the wreath. The metal type hangers are more durable and a safer option for hanging the wreath but they do cost a bit more than some simple gauge wire.
