Unique Indie Rock: Five of the Best Songs by Bombay Bicycle Club

Bombay, Indie Rock

Bombay Bicycle Club is an indie rock band from Crouch End, London, England, that has a truly unique and enjoyable sound. This four man band is comprised of Jack Steadman, Jamie MacColl, Suren de Saram, and Ed Nash, and produces some amazing songs with hypnotic melodies, unique vocal qualities and an irresistible rhythm that you just can’t help to dance along to. Here is a look at five of the best songs by Bombay Bicycle Club yet, and a fan’s opinion of why the best is yet to come.

“Ghost”

The song that first turned me on to Bombay Bicycle Club is “Ghost.” Combine an upbeat tempo with a unique sound and funky lyrics and you’ve got yourself a highly memorable and enjoyable song. Thanks to the guitar riffs, the drums and the lead singer’s refreshingly unique voice, “Ghost” has been playing on my mp3 player for the last two years.

“Always Like This”

A song that epitomizes Bombay Bicycle Club’s sound is “Always Like This.” The song is energetic, quirky and will have you tapping your foot along to the beat. For additional entertainment, check out Bombay Bicycle Club’s music video for “Always Like This.” The video is just as quirky as their sound is, and I loved every second of it!

“Magnet”

Continuing this top seven list of the best Bombay Bicycle Club songs yet is their song “Magnet.” Keeping in style with many of their other songs, “Magnet” is fun, quirky and refreshingly unique. Be sure to check out their music video for “Magnet,” as it complements the song beautifully.

“Shuffle”

In their 2011 album “A Different Kind of Fix,” Bombay Bicycle stepped up the energy yet another notch with the song “Shuffle.” The hyper piano playing is set off beautifully with calm, laid back vocals. Don’t expect to sit still listening to this song; I typically tap my foot through the entire three and a half minutes of track time.

“How Can You Swallow So Much Sleep”

The song that took Bombay Bicycle Club to a completely new level was “How Can You Swallow So Much Sleep.” This song is not as energetic as previous tracks, but it is nothing short of brilliant. From the soothing introduction to the beautiful melody and repetitive harmonies, “How Can You Swallow So Much Sleep” is refreshing. Additionally, for the most artistic and creative music video I’ve seen in some time, be sure to check out the video for “How Can You Swallow So Much Sleep.

As Bombay Bicycle Club matures as a band, their song is only improving. This British indie rock band captured a broad audience with their first three albums and I cannot wait to see what the future holds for this eclectic band of musicians.
