Under the Sea Wedding Theme

Beta Fish, New Age Music, Rum Drinks, Tropical Flowers

Picture a sunset hovering over the ocean, waves are lapping onto the shore, and a nice summer, sea breeze whiffing through the air – – a perfect setting for a beach wedding! Right? However, you want an “out of the box” beach themed wedding. So, how about leaving the shore and diving under the sea? From location, color scheme, invitation, décor, favors, lighting, music, food, beverage, and cake – – here are some ideas perfect for any fish!

Where to have your themed wedding? Picture a room with wall-to-wall aquariums filled with sea creatures of any kind. Perfect for your themed wedding! Right? Don’t live near an aquarium? Find a banquet room, with a sea inspired color scheme. Add elements, such as lights and décor, to suggest your theme.

Want some color scheme ideas? There are so many beautiful color inspirations, when thinking of the ocean. Here are a few suggestions: teal, navy, royal, turquoise, sea foam blue; dark green; brown; black; coral; yellow; orange; red; beige; taupe; and pearl white.

Need some invitation ideas? There are so many choices such as beach, tropical, or sea life inspired invitations, that can demonstrate your theme! Need suggestions? Waves in Love or Coral Tropical Fish Wedding Invitations are excellent options! However, my favorite is Coral Stationary Collection by “Things Festive.” This website even has table numbers, stickers, and water, wine, and chocolate bar labels that matches the stationary!

How to decorate your room? For this demonstration let’s pick a color scheme! Let’s use royal blue, coral, and pearl white. I recommend using royal crushed shimmer table clothes, on all round tables. Pick a pearl essence chiavari chair with royal Lamoure chair pads. Want to add some bubbles to your table design? At the website Cloth Connection, the sapphire tye dye Paylette over lay table cloth is reminiscent of bubbles! At each place setting, add royal crushed shimmer napkins wrapped in orange coral napkin holders. Place the wrapped napkin and an ecru menu on top of a shell or mother of pearl charger. Need centerpiece ideas? I recommend picking tall glass cylinder vases. First, fill the bottoms with beach sand, shells, and starfish. Second, fill the vases with blue tinted water. Next, submerge coral or orange colored orchids. Then, add one blue or coral Beta Fish. Remember – – just one Beta Fish! Unlike like your fiancé and you, two Beta Fish do not get along; all you need is one dead fish floating on top of your centerpieces! Next, add a “wave” of royal blue and coral/orange cascading tropical flowers, flowing out of the cylinder. Finally, add branches of orange coral, pearlescent abalone, and/or clam shells ( filled with pearls) to the centerpiece, for a final touch. After setting one vase on each table, surround the glass cylinders with several coral/orange or blue glass votive candle holders. Add beige candles to the candle holders. Finally, sprinkle tiny shells and starfish in the middle of each table. Drape bellowing blue chiffon from the ceiling. Then, hang large, medium, and small glass balls, pearlescent balloons, or white lanterns from the ceiling. This will add that, “bubble, bubble, bubble,” effect to your design!

Need favor ideas? Picked the coral stationary? This collection has a coral bottle stopper, with gift packaging, and it matches your wedding stationary! Need other ideas? How about a message in a bottle? You can purchase clear bottles with corks, at any craft store. Fill the bottles with sand, small shells, and a message on ecru paper. After replacing the cork in the bottle, tie raffia and a shell around the neck of the bottle.

How to make your room come to life? Well, lighting of course! Picture one bright light on the brides and grooms sweetheart table. This recreates the effect of sunlight filtering down through the depths of water. Next, picture slow moving blue and warm lights casting throughout the space, giving the feel that one is under the sea. How to create this effect? Hire a lighting designer to create an underwater lighting design! This will defiantly give your setting the “wow” factor!

What type of music do you want to add to your ambiance? I recommend mystical New Age music, with sounds of the ocean. Hire a DJ to play this type of music during the cocktail and dinner hours. Then, he or she could pick up the pace later in the evening! Or, if that is too boring for your celebration, hire a steel drum band!

What should your menu consist of? Seafood of course! Start with hot or cold seafood appetizers. You might serve, for example: shrimp cocktail, oysters-on the-half-shell, or sushi. Then, for your next course, clam chowder or a seafood salad is an excellent choice. Finally, offer fish, rice pilaf, and steamed vegetable, for your main dish. Remember – – not everyone likes (or some of your guests might have an allergy to) seafood. I highly recommend also offering non-seafood dishes to please all your guests!

What drink should you offer to your guests? Fruity, tropical, rum drinks, of course! And don’t forget the umbrella! Want a signature drink? How about a drink called, “In the Ocean?” Don’t like what’s in this drink? Go to the website Drink Mixer. This website has many ocean inspired cocktails.

Last, but not least – – the wedding cake! I recommend a three-tiered, fondant, scalloped blue cake that emulates waves. Then, decorate the cake with gum paste orange coral, clams with pearls, fish, beige shells, and starfish. If you want other options, there are so many choices to choose from. From tropical reef cakes, sand castles, and shell cakes – – your world is your oyster!

For your “out the box” beach themed wedding, an under the sea theme is the perfect match for your wedding celebration. From location, color scheme, invitation, décor, favors, lighting, music, food, beverage, and cake – – these ideas will create the perfect setting for any sea creature! Now all you have to do is swim into the sunset!
