Tyngsboro Sports Center-Great Spot for Rainy Day Fun

Batting Cages, Indoor Sports, Kids Soccer, Rainy Day Fun

With the rain pouring down, and no sign of sunny weather in sight, my daughter and I set out to find something fun and active to do. We headed to the nearby Tyngsboro Sports Center. Located on Progress Avenue in Tyngsboro, MA.

What they offer: According to the Tyngsboro Sports Center’s brochure, they offer the following: “a new, climate controlled indoor sports facility that includes: two basketball courts, four volleyball courts, a 180’x80′ granular rubber turf field, two coin operated baseball pitching machines, one coin operated softball pitching machine, three coaching fed pitching machines, concession stand, arcade, pro-shop, birthday room and locker rooms with showers

Because my daughter’s softball game had rained out, we headed first to try out the batting cages. The softball cage costs 1.00 for 12 balls, and $20 for 1/2 hour with the non-coin operated machine. We went for the coin-operated version, and found bats and helmets readily available at the batting cages. The batting cage areas were clean and well organized, and surprisingly not crowded for a Saturday afternoon. We brought about $15.00 in quarters for the machine, and spent a good hour hittin softballs. The machine definitely pitched fastballs, and after a bit, we were able to time out hits so that not many balls went by without a hit. We had both worked up a pretty good sweat by the time we ran out of quarters.

Of course when my daughter eyed the arcade, we had to stop there before we left! The usual arcade games were there, with a nice air hockey table as well. The arcade games were all functional, and while the prizes could use some work (most of the machines with prizes just gave out superballs), it definitely met my daughter’s approval. We played a couple of games and then headed out.

Passing the party room, a group of 4 or so year olds were having a birthday party, and playing on the artificial turf. It made me think of my daughter’s winter birthday and how there is so little opportunity for a sports type party that time of year. We will definitely think of this place when party planning time rolls around. We took a birthday party flyer on our way out, and birthday packages range from $150-$200 for ten kids, and include pizza, soda, an hour on the indoor field, 45 minutes in a party room, and tokens for the arcade or batting cages.

The Tyngboro Sports Center also offers a multitude of sports camps, clinics, and leagues, including kids soccer, basketball, t-ball, and multisports camps, and also adults basketball, flag football and soccer.

All in all, I’m happy we found Tyngsboro Sports Center. It’s a great place to get some activity and fun in on a day when the weather won’t cooperate!
