Trunk or Treat Ideas for 2009

Backyardigans, Snoopy, Veggie Tales

Due to all of the problems that many trick-or-treaters face, many churches and communities have started doing trunk or treats. For those who are older or have never heard of a trunk or treat, it is a group of people who gather and park their cars in a large parking lot, open their trunks or vehicles and decorate them. They then pass out candy to children. In today’s world it makes for a safer night for your children.

While many church sponsored trunk or treats, ask for you to avoid scary things such as blood, bats, witches, spiders, monsters, or gore, there are still many ideas that can be used.

In order to best decorate your car is to think of a theme. Once you have chosen the theme, start looking around your house and see what you have laying around, you can save quite a bit of money by doing this, and some of the best decorated trunks are the ones that have themes with things that are laying around your house.

Many tots like snoopy to this day, and one cute idea would be to buy dollar store pumpkins and set them among your car, have someone dress as snoopy, and you have snoopy and the pumpkin patch. If you are in a neighborhood that is hosting a trunk or treat, then such things as spider webbing, spiders, brooms, bats, cauldrons, and other scary stuff work just fine.

If you own a SUV, you can decorate it with a 70’s theme. Throw down some shag carpeting and hang a disco ball, if there is an outlet around that works, plug in the disco ball. Have people wear fro wigs and tie-died tee-shirts. The 70’s theme can also be done with any year that you want to.

For trunk and treats that are going to be attended by smaller children, Mother Goose themes, are always a hit.

If you are the clown in the family, this is the time of year to show off, dress as one and tie some balloons to your car.

If you have a lot of stuffed animals around, then set them about your car like you are a zookeeper.

Have a passion for fishing? The transform your car into a back of a boat, get some magnetic items form a dollar store, or buy them in bulk online, and let the kids fish for them.

Many people in Savannah, and near Tybee Island, decorate their cars with a beach theme. I have seen some set up boogie boards, Use shells and many other things that are found on the beach.
