Who among us is too high-brow to laugh at someone getting their face smacked into the pavement? Or to enjoy the hedging a man gets after having his lip bitten off when he kissed a shark? Not I. I don’t know these people on tru TV Presents: World’s Dumbest so it’s easy to laugh at them. Usually the people made fun of are not seriously hurt, just seriously ridiculed for being stupid.
Life is serious enough. I choose to laugh weekly at the show, tru TV Presents: World Dumbest. The “Dumbest” being showcased changes weekly. Variations include criminals, daredevils, and brawlers.
The show began as The Smoking Gun Presents. This season tru TV seems to be taking the honors. The only changes I have noticed since the name change or ownership are some of the backgrounds and graphics.
The cast of, “B-list celebrities” makes laughing even more acceptable. The cast is comprised of actors, comedians, writers and others who shared the spotlight of fame. A few hints about the cast: a former figure skater, a 70’s pop-star, child actors all grown up can be seen as they currently are while they take cheap shots at each other. The cast also make fun of each other by bringing up some of their own personal experiences with the law. These personal experiences mixed with common sense commentary makes for great comedy.
Comedy is funny because it points to truth and realizations about the human condition. It’s not just banal laughter at people getting into trouble or getting hurt. It’s pointing out the truth. When we make mistakes it’s funny. These comedians point out what we as viewers can see as morality, decency, and common sense. Their wit and analysis turn video clips into slapstick comedy. Observances like bystanders in the video clips doing nothing to help will not be ignored.
What also makes this show great is the crew, Meeting House Productions, Inc. The added video clips are pure genius. Editing, using the blue screen, music, voiceovers, and skits round out the show to a full hour of comedy.
World’s Dumbest can be seen on tru TV every Thursday at 9:00. Be advised it is tv-14 and not appropriate for young audiences. For those of us who are the appropriate viewing age, it’s great fun to watch criminals get mercilessly bashed.
