Top Weekend Getaways for Memphians

Peabody, Romantic Hotels, Weekend Getaways

A little R&R; is really important for everyone, especially those couples who both work or who seem never to stop running–with the kids, with jobs, or with social obligations. Real health means strength and well being. You can’t get this sort of equilibrium if you’re like a rat in a treadmill. There are little things one can do like take catnaps, go to a gym, take nature walks, etc. And they do help. But sometimes couples need to unwind for a weekend and get away from the same old routine just to regroup and start anew, get a new perspective.

A weekend getaway can often refresh a person enough so as to open up some new ideas or even some new plans. But more important, it can put back some spice into your romantic life and rejuvenate a marriage that has become jaded from neglect.

There are lots of places to go and things to do in and around Memphis that are just the ticket for a “rejuvenating” weekend and they don’t have to cost you an arm and a leg, either. At the corner of Tennessee, Memphis is bordered by both Mississippi and Arkansas, just across the Mississippi River. If you have children, please plan ahead and get a babysitter or a relative to commit to taking the kids for the entire weekend and let the kids know too, so that they won’t stress themselves over it.

Now, my first idea is really simple. Memphis is home to one of the most romantic Hotels in the world–the magnificent Peabody. I would make reservations here for Friday and Saturday nights.THE PEABODY MEMPHIS »

A weekend at the Peabody is expensive but what it offers is incredible. You are literally transported to a time of grace and elegance. The interior was entirely refurbished, at enormous expense, a couple of decades ago, making it a spellbinding beauty. Breathtaking is the only way to describe it and romance is almost guaranteed here. With a world class restaurant and all the service you and your sweetheart will experience a real scrapbook weekend.

After you arrive you might want to stroll around the downtown and take in some sights, or even better, enlist a horse-drawn carriage to give you an historical grand tour of the area. Another marvelous way to spend your weekend vacation in the Peabody would be to take a riverboat tour and while away the hours on the decks of a lovely riverboat while sipping a drink and taking in the impressive expanse of the mighty Mississippi.

Now that the cold weather’s set in you may want to enjoy something that will provide you and your sweetheart with some quality snuggle time. Just minutes from Memphis by expressway, Bonne Terre is a fantastic bed and breakfast that has become extremely popular with Memphians taking a weekend getaway. All rooms have lovely balconies where you can have your tea and coffee in the morning and look out over the beautiful meadows surrounding the building, pond and swimming pool.

What could be cozier than a nice fire in your room’s own fireplace, then dinner at a truly blue ribbon restaurant downstairs in the dining hall? You should arrange to have a bottle of champagne served chilled in your room on arrival. After dinner the two of you can relax in a private Jacuzzi! Call for reservations and also look at all the file of room pictures on the web site. http://www.bonneterre.com/.

Are you and your sweetie ski lovers? Well Tennessee’s only ski area might be a good quick place to get some R&R; and a little romance. They have a lot of lodges and hotels for skiers and even if you don’t want to ski the scenery is breath taking. Take a soothing Jacuzzi, drink some lovely champagne, dine on gourmet fare, and snuggle in a wonderful, soft bed. Very romantic. Very affordable, and pretty close to home. One more idea for a romantic getaway from Memphis is Hardy, Arkansas. This quaint little mountain town has been loved by Memphians for decades for its old-fashioned mountain air, its boardwalks, its quaint antique shops and most importantly, the beautiful gurgling waters of the little Spring River. Only a three hour drive away, it’s just perfect for a romantic weekend vacation. If your sweetheart has a love of antiques or any of the aspects or features I just mentioned, a getaway in Hardy would be just the ticket. The Hideaway Inn near “downtown” Hardy is really lovely and romance is in the air of every room! You could also choose a hotel or Inn that is larger, so I have given two links for you to take a look at.
