Top Ten Motivational Movies

5 Senses, Erin Brockovich

What is a motivational movie? A motivational movie is one that will inspire you to meet your challenges, and defeat any obstacles you encounter. As you watch the uplifting movie, it will help give you the courage to pursue your goals and the drive to take action. Many of these movies are about underdogs, or people that have been in extremely harsh conditions but survived. This article on motivational movies is written with the intent of helping motivate you to pursue your life dreams.

Here are ten motivational movies:

1. Rocky III (1982). This movie stars our favorite underdog, Sylvester Stallone. In this movie, Rocky faces Ivan Drago, a Russian fighter who is privy to all of the advanced technological equipment possible to help prepare him for the fight. However, Rocky has a log cabin out in the middle of nowhere with just basic equipment. Rocky figures out how to train himself with what he has to use, and he puts his whole heart and soul into getting ready for the fight. Now, if that doesn’t motivate you to overcome a hurdle, then I don’t know what will.

2. Apollo 13 (1995), starring Tom Hanks. This inspiring movie is about a mission to the moon that encounters severe problems. The astronauts don’t know what they will do to be able to get back to earth. Based on a true story, the astronauts have to rely on a group of people to figure out a solution for them to their problem. The astronauts only have certain things available to them to use to fix the malfunction, and a workable solution has to be developed. The motto “Failure is not an option” comes from this movie, because to get those men back alive, a solution had to be found. This motto is one I use for my life. Anytime life gets hard, just step up to the plate and come up with a solution to make it through.

3. Alive (1993). In this movie, a soccer team flying over the Andes crashes in the snow-covered mountains. The team must survive very harsh weather conditions. What they had to end up doing to survive was to actually become cannibals and eat the persons who didn’t survive. Can you imagine, having to do something like this to one of your friends? Anytime you are ready to give up, and think you’ve got it hard, just imagine what these soccer players had to go through. Then some of them had to actually travel through the mountains to get back to civilization to get help for the others. If you are cold one day walking outside, think about the weather they encountered.

4. The Miracle Worker (1962). This movie is about Helen Keller, who was blind and deaf. She didn’t have ordinary troubles to face like many of us do. She didn’t just have to worry about money to pay bills or whether or not she had a date for Saturday evening. She had to learn how to survive with only 3 of her 5 senses intact! Think about the challenges she faced. She was motivated, however, to learn and figure out how to survive.

5. Erin Brockovich (2000). This motivational movie is about a small law firm taking on a huge company. It’s a classic David v. Goliath film, where the little guy wins in the end. Erin Brockovich had to come up with ways to get the information her law firm needed to win a case about how a company was infecting the drinking water with its processes and causing people to get life threatening illnesses. This was no easy task! The law firm didn’t have the resources available that a larger firm would have had, so they had to team up with a larger firm to be able to take on the case. However, this goes to show again that if you get motivated, you can accomplish something difficult and almost impossible!

6. Far and Away (1992). Aside from being an incredibly romantic movie and starring two of my favorite actors, Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman, this movie offers much more. Cruise and Kidman go to America, to make their dreams come true, leaving England and everything they know. They have to resort to all kinds of things, including Nicole dancing for money and plucking chickens to make a living! They live in a whore house, and share a room. Why this movie is motivating is that these two gave up every comfort to do something they believed in, and faced incredible challenges along the way. But, it didn’t stop them.

7. Cast Away (2000). Here is another Tom Hanks movie. In Cast Away, Tom Hanks ends up alone on a deserted island. He has to figure out to build a raft/boat that can get him back to civilization. He doesn’t just face the ocean, but also surviving without any human companionship for an extended period of time. However, he still finds a way to survive!

8. Good Will Hunting (1997). Matt Damon and Ben Affleck pair up in this inspiring movie about getting past the demons that haunt you. Matt Damon had a gift with math, and he was very intelligent. However, whatever happened to him growing up damaged him enough that he never pursued his interests, but worked as a janitor. In this movie, Matt Damon was able to avoid some trouble he had gotten himself into if he was willing to get the counseling he needed, and he got past his issues to start chasing his dreams. By working out his issues, he was also able to pursue the woman he was in love with.

9. Eight Below (2006). This movie is about courage and tough decisions. After returning from an expedition with the dogs leading the sled, the dog’s owner is forced to leave the dogs at the site in Antarctica and cannot safely return for them until the next spring. This is due to the harsh weather conditions. Most of the dogs survive. Why does this motivate you? If these dogs can survive in Antarctica, you can certainly finish your homework assignment or job task.

10. Legally Blonde (2001). Reese Witherspoon lights up the screen as a beautiful blonde in this movie. Her boyfriend dumps her, because he wants someone serious instead of a blonde to marry. She sets out to prove that she is just as smart as any of her brunette counterparts, and rises above the occasion. She becomes the star of her law class, and solves a tough murder case. It goes to show that if you set your mind to something, you can achieve it.
