Stargate SG-1 is the longest consecutive running American Science Fiction show on TV (beating the X-files) and has a huge fan base. Fans worldwide were saddened to hear that Stargate has been canceled and the rest of the episodes will air in March 2007. To make the end of Stargate easier, why not treat the Stargate fan in your life to some Stargate gifts for Christmas? There are several items to choose from and they’re sure to be a hit.
1. Netflix subscription: You can get a gift subscription to Netflix for a month, or a year, depending on your gift budget. The average person could not afford to buy all Stargate Seasons for someone as a gift so treating a Stargate Fan to a Netflix subscription is the next best thing. They could rent Stargate seasons at their leisure and perhaps have a Stargate night and invite family and friends. A Netflix subscription is $216 for one year on the 3 at a time plan. If the year price seems to steep, try getting them a month of Netflix for slightly under twenty dollars.
2. Autographs: An autograph can be a prized possession if it’s from a star that you really like. Autographs make great gifts and any Stargate fan would be proud to have an autograph from one of their favorite SCI FI shows. Prices vary but a picture of the cast together with all their autographs runs for about $195 (depending on where you buy it). If the Stargate addict in your life has a favorite cast member, I would advise getting them a photo of that particular cast member, which would end up being cheaper then a group autograph.
3. Photographs: There are numerous pictures of the Stargate cast that you can buy and frame. What Stargate fan wouldn’t want a picture of their favorite show hanging on their wall? A picture of one cast member goes for around $6 dollars. Instead of buying a frame online, just take the picture with you to a store like Walmart or Target and buy a frame there, which could end up being cheaper then ordering a frame online.
4. Calendar: There is a Stargate Calendar which runs for $24.95. Any true fan would want to dance around in glee at the thought of a Stargate Calendar featuring a different picture each month. The calendar features cast members such as Amanda Tapping, Michael Shanks, Ben Browder, Claudia Black, Christopher Judd and more.
5. Action Figures: Who says that action figures are only for kids? There are Stargate action figures of the cast that Stargate fans would be happy with. I was skeptical when I first heard about the action figures for Stargate but surprisingly, they really do look close to the characters of the television show. They could be kept in the package or taken out of the package and posed for display.
6. Board Game: Stargate fans can now go on missions of their own with the Stargate Board Game. The game can have 2-6 players and is recommend for ages 10 and up. Players will be in charge of Goa’uld, Asgard and Earth starships. Game also comes with an Iris that closes, and a deck of Stargate SG1 cards. I think that most people wouldn’t even think that a Stargate game existed, so this would be a really neat item to give as a gift to someone who liked the show.
7. Books: With Stargate being canceled, books about Stargate would make a great gift. There are 12 Stargate fiction books, that takes the SG1 team on missions, and many others about the different aspects of Stargate, such as behind the scenes. I especially recommend getting Stargate SG-1: The Ultimate Visual Guide which is a companion to the show and has encyclopedic dictionary AND a bonus DVD, it has over 600 color pictures which would keep a Stargate fan enthralled for hours.
8. Night Lite: No, you didn’t read wrong. There is a Stargate night lite that you can buy for your Stargate Fan for $9.95. A Stargate Night Lite could light up your life, literally! It features 6 cast members (including Richard Dean Anderson) and has a sensor light so when someone comes stumbling through in the middle of the night, it will come on.
9. Clothing: There are t-shirts, hats and more that feature Stargate cast members or sayings from the show. Wearing clothing from the show would be a good conversation starter, it would certainly draw other Stargate fans to you!
10. DVDS: Several Stargate seasons are available to buy on DVD. Buying season 1 as a gift for your Stargate friend would be a good start to their collection. You can get Stargate SG-1 Season 1 (Thinpak) at Amazon for only $15.98. When it was first released, it was over $60!
Whatever gift you chose for your Stargate Fan, they’ll probably be ecstatic that you took the extra effort to get them something from their favorite show. It’s almost a sure bet that they wouldn’t even think about returning the gift you got them. It would be a gift that they would cherish for years to come.
