Top Five Educational Shows for Children

I am a stay at home homeschooling mom so education is of big importance to me. I am always looking for a way to sneak in education. One good way is through television. Let’s face it kids love to watch television. I try to make sure that my children watch educational programs. Some children shows are better than others. I have decided to share the best educational shows for everyone to benefit. These shows are geared in my opinion towards ages 1 – 7, although older children may still enjoy them.

5. JoJo’s Circus

All children need to be taught good morals and life skills, and this show does an excellent job of reinforcing these skills. Jojo’s Circus is a very interactive show. I love the way JoJo speaks directly to the audience and includes them in the show. The main character JoJo Tickle will teach your child to be polite, play games, sing, and dance. this show will definitely hold your child’s attention while instilling good morals at the same time.

4. Dora the Explorer

This was my three year old daughter’s first favorite show. If you want your children to learn Spanish then this is the show for them. Dora frequently uses Spanish throughout the show. This show also teaches math and music skills.. Everyday Dora goes on a different adventure exploring the world around her. Dora the Explorer is sure to be a hit in your house!

3. Barney

Barney has been around for quite some time. Barney’s show really teaches a variety of academic skills. Children can learn math concepts, reading, dental hygiene, and more. Each adventure with Barney is an exciting, rewarding, and educational one.

2. Between the Lions

My children just recently started watching this show. This show is excellent at teaching reading skills. I love the way that someone on the show will read a story and the words are highlighted on the screen as the story is read. The show goes over every aspect of reading from vowels to consonant clusters. I was truly amazed the first time I watched Between the Lions. My children have benefited so much from this show. Whether your child is a beginning reader, struggling reader, or advanced reader Between the Lions will provide them with a fun approach to reading.

1. Sesame Street

My number 1 pick for the best educational show for children is Sesame Street. I grew up watching this show. It has been loved by children for 35 years! Sesame Street teaches the alphabet, reading skills, mathematics, morals, etc. The list goes on and on. The thing I love most about Sesame Street is that it is such a fun show! There is always an interesting theme, cartoon, or skit on every show. The characters are so lovable, fun, and entertaining. My son’s favorite character is Elmo. Elmo has his own show within the show called Elmo’s World which is a hit among toddlers and preschoolers. If you have to just pick one educational show for your child to watch during the day, pick Sesame Street!
