Top College Football Players of 2012

Football Players, Michael Floyd

Now that the majority of high school recruits have signed to their new colleges in 2011, it is time to take a look at the top college football players in 2011/2012. Obviously, Andrew Luck will be the top pro prospect if he performs well but there are other names that many of who haven’t heard of that may top next years NFL Draft board. Below are the top four college football players of the 2011/2012 NCAA football season.

No.1: Andrew Luck: Stanford – Luck would have been the top pick in this years NFL Draft, had he decided to come out. I completely respect his decision to stay in school. The kid potentially gave up millions of dollars if he has a bad year in 2011, but at least he’s having fun doing what he loves for one more year. I don’t think he will have any problems dominating college football in 2011. The loss of Jim Harbaugh will hurt Stanford’s chances of making a BCS bowl game but they still have a chance. I expect Luck to be the number one pick in next year’s NFL Draft.

No. 2: Michael Floyd : Notre Dame-There are several receivers who could have gone in this spot, but in my opinion Floyd is the best. Floyd has the rare combination of size and speed. He is known for having huge games, but his flaw is dropping easy passes. It almost seems like he tries to show off too early some times and ends up dropping a pass. Many people are unaware that Floyd even exist but when the NFL Draft rolls around next year, everybody will know his name. Floyd will be a first round pick.

No. 3: Janoris Jenkins: Florida-Jenkins is high on my list of NFL Draft prospects for next season. NFL teams are always looking for shut down corners because if you can eliminate one receiver in a game you have a huge advantage. Jenkins would have been a first round pick this season but he would have been the third or fourth cornerback taken. In my opinion, his decision was brilliant. He would have been a second thought to teams in the first round this year because of the cornerback depth in the NFL Draft. Next season, he will be the top cornerback in the nation and may get drafted high to a team desperate for a cornerback.

No. 4: Landry Jones: Oklahoma-Jones is overlooked right now but he will soon be in the talks about the top returning players in the nation. Jones has great intangibles and I think he will have a huge 2011/2012 season. In my opinion, Landry Jones will be the Heisman winner next season and Oklahoma will play in the National Championship. Scouts will be even more excited about Jones because of the success of Sam Bradford. Sam Bradford came out of the same system at Oklahoma, and took the worst team in the NFL to a middle of the road team in the NFL in one season.
