Top 5 Free Pincushion Patterns

Pincushions are so fun to make because they are so small and the details that can be added to pincushion patterns can be as simple or as detailed as you choose to get.

For awhile I was on a pincushion kick and could not stop making them. I was making pincushions for myself and once people saw the sweet little pincushions, they also wanted one so I started making pincushions as gifts, they were very well received.

I did use my pincushion to hold my pins but my main purpose in making pincushions was for pure pleasure and visual appeal. There is something about pincushions that I love, I am not sure if it because I still have fond memories of my Grandma’s tomato pincushion sitting next to her Singer sewing machine. It may be that I enjoy the nostalgia or it may be the pure love of the shape and details that go into making a pincushion, regardless I really enjoy and admire pincushions!

I found so many free pincushion patterns that I truly get pleasure from and love but here you find the top 5 free pincushion patterns that I find the most appealing.

Free Pincushion Pattern #1: Soda Bottle Cap Pincushion Pattern

This is one of my favorite pincushion patterns because the soda bottle cap offers a type of form to work around thus making the pincushion consistent in size and shape. I also love the idea of being able to recycle bottle caps, this is a great example of reusing a material that would otherwise be thrown in the trash. This website shows amazing photos of examples and variations on how the pincushion pattern could be embellished and enhanced. Directions are fantastic on the site and the corresponding photos are very detailed, you will not be disappointed with this pincushion pattern.
