Top 5 Comedy Films of the Year

Comedy Films, Failure to Launch

In a world gone mad, comedic relief has been a remedy for many of woes for all of us when we most need it. This year was not short of the funny film or two. Some films triumphed more than others at the box office the year. The films that made me most laugh can be found on this list. Some films featured on this list star the most notoriously funny men and women while other films came as a fun surprise in the realm of hysterically laughable to watch.

1.Pirates of the Caribbean The Curse of the Black Pearl starring Johnny Depp struck lightening at the box office in2003. A film about a pirate wowed adults and children alike. The swashbuckling Jack Sparrow was brought to life by Johnny who of course made the role and character well and truly his own.

The film also co-stars Orlando Bloom and Kiera Knightley The winning collaboration warranted a sequel. The sequel entitled Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest struck gold in 2006 at the box office all across world. Johnny Depp reprised his role with fervor and gusto. He was never better. The film is charming, amusing, and witty. It only failed to disappoint.

With the undisputed success of Pirates of the Caribbean II, there was nothing left to do but a third installment. Pirates of the Caribbean At Worlds End is due out in 2007. The magic of Privates I and II will be especially magical in Pirates III.

2. The Break Up comes in at number second to the almighty Jack Sparrow lead Pirates of the Caribbean. The film stars comedic heavy weight Vince Vaughn who know a thing or two about being a funny guy. With films successes like The Wedding Crasher the smash hit of 2005 in which co-stars along side Owen Wilson and Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story (2004) with Ben Stiller.

Vince Vaughn co-stars with Jennifer Aniston who has a string of comedic movie role successes herself. She starred in Bruce Almighty (2003) with another very funny man Jim Carrey and Along Came Polly (2004) alongside Ben Stiller. She will always be known fore her comedic timing on the mega hit TV show Friends.

The Break Up is a story about a couple that was a couple in the co-habitation sense only. Sharing a luxurious condo became unbearable for on both sides. The ending of the relationship apparently was not the hard part of the matter. Instead it was the divvying up of the assets that launched the greatest battle of all. The condo being the grandest asset neither side wanted to part with, at least not without a fight.

The film premise of a couple and film without a happy ending proved to be masterful as the moviegoers went in droves.

3. Fun with Dick and Jane (2005) was released in January 2006. It is the remake of 1997 film of the same name. The orginal co-starred George Segal and Jane Fonda. It was hillarious then and even more hillarious now. The 2005/6 reversion brings together the oh so funny Jim Carrey and the talented Téa Leoni playing the upwardly mobile couple who’s life sudden takes a turn for the unemployment line when Dick loses his job.

As the bills mount up, a desperate and very broke Dick turns to crime. Jane sadly, but hillariously, joins him. They then decide steal from Dick’s former boss CEO Jack McCallister who is play Alec Baldwin. Baldwin brought a hysterically funny element to the story and plays the role of greed fat cat so very well. This delight film just make you laugh from beginnig to end.

4. Thank You For Not Smoking starring Aaron Eckhart is about a tobacco lobbyist with the daunting tasking of convincing the masses of the good rather than obvious evils of smoking cancer producing cigarettes. Aaron’s portrayal of the relentless and even twisted efforts of this lobbyist named Nick is comical in a dark and satirical way and yet thoroughly enjoyable. You will unexpectedly find yourself laughing even if you are inclined to feel a little guilty about the whole selling the pros for smoking thing.

The smug Nick meets his match of sort when a savvy beautiful news reporter beats him at his own game and his world closes in. If you like dark comedy then this is the film for you. You will laugh, you may even cry, but will not be without experiencing a great amount of laughter in the process.

5. Failure to Launch is a comedy with several twists and turns. The film co-stars Matthew McConaughey and Sarah Jessica Parker. The last time the two paired teamed up was when he guest appeared for an episode on the fabulous and greatly missed Sex in the City. The story is boy meets girl, girl is hired by boys family to get boy out of their house ASAP. The premise alone spells laughs and more laughs and that is exactly what you get.

The two actors have such great chemistry that it makes them both even more enjoyable to watch. The comedic timing of Sarah Jessica is classic. Matthew and she approaching the matter of one another from very different perspective point of view just never fall short of pure entertainment.
