Billy Joel, Classic Rock, Piano Man, Top 10 Political Rock Songs

My top 5 classic rock songs by Billy Joel span the early 1970s through the late 1980s. These top 5 classic rock songs by Billy Joel include one that’s a musical history lesson. Here they are in no particular order, my top 5 classic rock songs by Billy Joel. How inspirational and uplifting are the renditions from “The Piano Man” to you?

Top 5 Classic Rock Songs by Billy Joel Selection Number 1: A Matter of Trust, from the 1986 album The Bridge

This particular song is my 2nd favorite Billy Joel classic rock song behind the next one you’ll read about (Allentown), though sometimes I think I like this a little bit better. I love the emotion exemplified in this song which uses really strong instrumental play to underscore the theme about enduring love in the face of doubts. It’s definitely one of my favorite music videos to watch, which you can do so here at YouTube.

Top 5 Classic Rock Songs by Billy Joel Selection Number 2: Allentown, from the 1982 album The Nylon Curtain

When I hear a steam whistle go off, I think one thing: Allentown! Allentown was one of the first music videos I ever got to watch on MTV. I lived in Casper, Wyoming, and we were a bit late in getting MTV, having to wait around a year after the revolutionary channel debuted in 1981. This 1982 song is one that I fell in love with upon first sight and listen to, and this blue collar anthem of real power and force is one of my top 10 classic rock and pop songs of all time. Top 5 Classic Rock Songs by Billy Joel Selection Number 3: I Go To Extremes, from the 1989 album Storm Front

I think this is Billy Joel’s “most smoothly rockin’ song! I think the piano play in this personal top 5 classic rock songs by Billy Joel selection really helps add some punch to this rendition. I think we all feel like we have gone too far when pursuing something or when we get over emotional about something. Whenever I am guilty of this, this song pops up in my head. It was a Top 10 hit for Joel in 1990 but didn’t quite get to the extreme point of Number 1.

Top 5 Classic Rock Songs by Billy Joel Selection Number 4: Piano Man, from the 1973 album of the same name

Piano Man was a top 25 hit for Billy Joel back in 1974, yet there is a such a freshness to this tune that never wears out its welcome, even though it’s getting to be close to 40 years playing on turntables, iPods, CD players, and the radio. I think this personal top 5 classic rock songs by Billy Joel selection has got some of the best lyrics ever written, and the tune is one of my top 10 classic rock and pop songs centered around a drinking theme, of which you can read more about that at this Associated Content article.

Top 5 Classic Rock Songs by Billy Joel Selection Number 5: We Didn’t Start The Fire, from the 1989 album Storm Front

This is a quick history lesson that laundry lists the pop and political events and people over the course of 40 years beginning with 1949 and ending in 1989. I have unusual memories of this really fast-paced and frantic top 5 songs by Billy Joel selection which has got a super beat. I was unemployed during part of 1989 around the time this song came out, and whenever I went to the unemployment office to look at the job board, this song would play almost all the time. Whenever I was looking for a job after that time in the 1990’s and went to the unemployment office, that song would still be playing more often than not. I associate this classic rock song with not having a job; and thus, also thankful that I’m gainfully employed!
