There are many children that enjoy birds. If your child is one of them, you may want to consider throwing him or her a bird themed birthday party this year. If you do decide to go that route, here are a few bird themed party favor ideas that you may want to consider using:
Spun Sugar Robin’s Nest with Eggs
Based on my experience, a bird’s nest made out of spun sugar and filled with miniature Robin’s eggs candy makes an excellent party favor. The spun sugar nests can be made up ahead of time and filled with the candy eggs right before the party. A bag of egg shaped candy will tend to cost you $3. You may opt to go with malted milk ball eggs, marzipan eggs, chocolate eggs, non-pareil eggs or use candy coated Jordan Almonds as eggs. As far as the sugar spun birds’ nests go, directions for making them may be found online.
Bird Watching Kit
Another option is to create a bird watching kit. In order to create one, you will need to purchase a case of toy binoculars ($11 per dozen), a case of blank journals ($1 per journal) and a bird shaped pencil or pen ($2 each). I’d suggest placing the items inside a gift bag along with instructions on how to create a bird watching journal. You might even want to throw in a homemade bird watching field guide in order to help the kids identify the birds that they encounter on their bird watching outings.
Plush Bird with Birdhouse
Depending on your budget, you may want to consider handing out plush birds with a plush birdhouse carrying case to each child. They tend to sell through carnival and party supply shops for less than $4 apiece. I have found that they are perfect for children 7 years of age or younger. If your children are over the age of 7, you may want to purchase a different plush bird instead.
If you want a party favor that can do double duty as a party activity, you may want to consider investing in a few DIY birdhouse craft kits. The kits consist of small, wooden birdhouses that can be decorated with paint or markers. The markers and paint are typically not included in the ready-made kits but can be purchased for less than $10. In my experience, a dozen DIY birdhouse craft kits will tend to cost you less than $15.
Feeding the birds can be a lot of fun for people of all ages. With that said, why not give each party guest all the supplies that they need in order to create a bird feeder? That way, they could have the pleasure of feeding the birds once they return home. The Audubon Society’s website has instructions for making a variety of homemade bird feeders that you could use to create your own bird feeder kits. Some of the bird feeders can be made with empty juice cartons, string and birdseed.
