Top 5 All Natural Uses for Honey

That jar of honey has been sitting in my cupboard forever. I wondered how I can use the honey so I can make more room in my closet (I cringe when I think about throwing out food). Honey, the all natural cure-all, is abundantly written about on the web.

Honey Use #1 – Relieve Arthritis Joint Pain

Millions of people experience arthritis joint pain on a daily basis. The website www.honeybook.net gives a recipe for a joint pain reliever which will increase mobility. Mix one gallon of water with two cups of honey. Add one cup of lemon juice and warm the mixture. Place a cloth in the warm mixture and place it directly on the inflamed joint. The mixture will not spoil, so you can store it in a plastic container with a tight lid.

Honey Use #2 – Enhance Your Baked Goods and Make Them Last Longer

Using honey when baking will ensure that your cakes, cookies, etc. won’t dry out. Pastries baked with honey come out as sweet and moist as those baked with sugar. According to several of my cookbooks, honey absorbs and retains moisture. The best way to preserve the moisture is to store your goodies n a tightly covered container after they cool.

Honey Use #3 – Use Honey for Other Health Ailments

The website Senselist.com devotes an entire page to the joys of honey. According to the site, honey can be used to treat eyelid inflammation, conjunctivitis (inflammation of the outer layer of the eye), and the condition of keratitis (when the cornea and the inner surface of the eyelids become inflamed).

Honey is useful in the healing of ulcers and upset stomachs. Using honey as a digestive aid helps to regulate the intestinal functions and supposedly it cures constipation and diarrhea.

Honey Use #4 – Honey as Hair Conditioner

Chef Noah, also known as Jack Chase, has an all around useful website called Chefnoah.com. Using honey as an occasional hair conditioner prevents split ends and frizzies.

To make your honey conditioner, mix one tablespoon of honey with two teaspoons of olive oil. Warm the mixture (but don’t make it too hot). Then, dip your fingers into the goo and rub it into your hair. Soak a towel in hot water. Wring the towel and wrap it on your head for twenty minutes. Then shampoo and make sure to remove the remaining olive oil.

Honey Use #5 – Honey Can Treat Mild Acne

On their website (www.suebee.com), the Sue Bee Honey Company claims that honey can help clear mild acne without drying out skin. Here is the recipe for “Soothing Skin Clarifier”: Mix one half cup of warm water with one-fourth teaspoon of salt. Use a cotton ball to apply this mixture directly to the blemish. Keep pressing with the cotton call for several minutes. This process will soften the blemish. Then, using a cotton swab, dab some honey on the blemish and leave it on for 10 minutes. Then rinse and pat dry.

One last piece of advice about honey comes from Benjamin Franklin. He said, “Tart words make no friends; a spoonful of honey will catch more flies than a gallon of vinegar.”
