Even though the most popular series of books to read for Halloween would be the “Twilight” saga, there are other books worth reading both on vampires and their arch nemesis’, vampire hunters and vampire slayers.
During the search for the top 10 vampire books for Halloween, not including Abraham Van Helsing and Buffy the Vampire Slayer books into the mix didn’t seem right. After all, they are the two most notable hunters or slayers of this popular genre.
NOTE: The top 10 vampire books to read for Halloween are in no particular order of importance. Since the “Twilight” saga has been the latest rage for readers in this genre, it was put last to bring light to other books to add to your vampire reading for Halloween.
“The Many Faces of Van Helsing” by Jeanne Cavelos
Although Abraham Van Helsing is the hunter of vampires, the vampire hunter has shown himself over the years in different human forms chasing Dracula or vampires. This book takes you through several human forms of Van Helsing hunting down vampires in the same manner Sherlock Holmes solves crimes.
“The Journal of Professor Abraham Van Helsing” by Allen C. Kupfer
One author’s account while doing research on “The Journal of Professor Abraham Van Helsing.” The author shares the entries of Van Helsing’s journal along with footnotes of other relatable items to his research on his grandfather, who had some insight of his own about Professor Abraham Van Helsing.
“The Southern Vampire Mysteries”
The “Southern Vampire Mysteries” is more notable today as the “True Blood Series.” This series was renamed “True Blood” so the genre could capitalize on the famous HBO series.
“Buffy the Vampire Slayer” by Mel Odom, Christopher Golden, and Nancy Holder
Although the “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” series revolves around the television series, this group of books shouldn’t be dismissed as a way to get your fix on vampires and vampire slayers.
“The Vampire Diaries” by L.J. Smith
There are only six novels in the original “The Vampire Diaries.” Since their inception, there has been three other additions to “The Vampire Diaries” which the first was released in 2009 and the final of the three to be released in 2011. Now would be a great time to get caught up on this series of books before the last release happens in 2011.
“Vampire Kisses” by Ellen Schreiber
For those who are into the Goth genre, this series crosses over into the vampire genre with a love relationship for the two to find a way to keep their relationship together. There are seven books in the series available to read at this time. Another addition will become available in May 2011.
What vampire reading list wouldn’t include this iconic and classic vampire story of all time. It doesn’t matter if you have or haven’t read “Dracula,” consider adding it to your reading list for Halloween.
“The Black Dagger Brotherhood” by J.R. Wood
“The Black Dagger Brotherhood” are the opposite of most of the books listed. Rather than killing humans for their blood or to add to the vampire underworld, the brothers in this series take you to the other side of the lives of vampires – love.
Rather than a stand alone series about vampires, “Night World” brings out vampires, shape-shifters, werewolves, and witches to a group of supernatural races that have only two laws to keep their existences alive. Without spoiling the stories of the night cultures of the series, you will have to read them to find what the rules are and why they exist.
“Twilight” Series by Stephenie Meyer
If you haven’t read the “Twilight” Series, this group of books on vampires should be on your must read books for Halloween. This modern day series on vampires, both female and male, has horror and love mixed into the story line.
