Top 10 Songs by the Dixie Chicks

The Dixie Chicks have sold millions of albums and won numerous awards for their songs. This is my take on the top 10 songs by the Dixie Chicks.

Wide Open Spaces: Not only did the song, “Wide Open Spaces” hit number one on music charts, I believe it touched thousands of hearts across the world. The song talks about a girl who follows her dreams and leaves her parents and home in the process.

“Wide Open Spaces” by the Dixie Chicks holds personal significance for me as I followed my heart and moved halfway across the country to attain my goals.

Wide Open Spaces” also won the 1999 Single of the Year from the Country Music Association.

There’s Your Trouble: “There’s Your Trouble” by the Dixie Chicks hit number one on the music charts in 1998 and won a Grammy Award for Best Country Performance by a Due or Group in 1999.

This song is about a man who fell in love with a woman who isn’t in love with him. The song talks about how hard it is for this man to let go of the woman he’s in love with and how he wishes she felt the same way. The chorus says: “You keep seeing double with the wrong one, you can’t see I love you, you can’t see she doesn’t, but you just keep holding on.”

I know that this song touches people’s hearts. Falling in love with someone who doesn’t feel the same way is a very painful experience.

Without You: “Without You” by the Dixie Chicks landed a number one spot on music charts in 2000, and is another song about losing the love of one’s life. “Without You” talks about how difficult it is to lose the love of your life. This song deals with the grief one experiences after someone has broken your heart.

I believe almost everyone can relate to this song. Most of us have experienced the pain of break-ups. Some of us have even experienced the break-up of an engagement or marriage, which is an incredibly painful experience to endure.

Travelin’ Soldier: “Travelin’ Soldier” is very significant in our present time, as our country continues to fight the war in Iraq. While I do not have any loved ones in the war at this time, I do know of other friends who have loved ones who are fighting the war.

This song talks about how a man who is leaving for the army meets a girl and asks her if he can write letters to her because he doesn’t have anyone to write to. The couple thinks they may be falling in love when the soldier is killed in Vietnam. The girl is heartbroken for the soldier who won’t return home.

I am sure too many people can relate to this story. So many American wives, husbands, sisters, brothers, mothers, fathers, and friends have lost loved ones in the war we are currently fighting in Iraq.

Not Ready to Make Nice: “Not Ready to Make Nice” is one of the Dixie Chicks’ newer songs. “Not Ready to Make Nice” hit number 4 on the U.S. music charts in 2006.

This song talks about how someone hurt the person in this song and how this individual may not be able to forgive and forget what the person who hurt him or her did: “Forgive sounds good, forget, I’m not sure I could.” The chorus gives added feeling to how the author of the song feels: “I’m not ready to make nice, I’m not ready to back down, I’m still mad as hell…It’s too late to make it right, I probably wouldn’t if I could.”

Personally, I know how deeply people can hurt one another. I have been hurt many times by both family and friends, and there are some instances in which I’ve had a very hard time forgiving and forgetting what people have done to hurt me.

Ready to Run: “Ready to Run” by the Dixie Chicks is another one of the best songs the Dixie Chicks has ever done.

Ready to Run” talks about a woman who is ready to run on her wedding day. I get the sense that the woman in this song may feel scared of commitment and she runs from her groom in order to remain free of committing to marriage.

I think a lot of people in today’s world can relate to this song. Marriage is a huge change to make in one’s life and it can be scary to face.

While we all may not have faced the decision of marriage, I am confident that many people have experienced times in their lives where they had a choice to make big changes in their lives. These changes, such as going away to college, marriage, divorce, having children, and starting a new job, may be both exciting and scary, which is why this song speaks to so many people.

Some Days You Gotta Dance: “Some Days You Gotta Dance” by the Dixie Chicks peaked at number 7 on the American country music charts. The song is a great reminder to people to lighten up once in a while and relax. The chorus says: “Some days you gotta dance, live it up when you get the chance, ’cause when the world doesn’t make no sense, and you’re feeling just a little too tense, gotta loosen up those chains and dance.”

This song has personal significance to me, as I tend to need to be reminded to take a break from work and to relax. I’m confident that we all need reminded once in a while to take some time for ourselves.

Cold Day in July: “Cold Day in July” is a song with great meaning and feeling. This song is about a couple who breaks up and how sad one is while he or she watches the other drive away, taking the future they had planned together with him or her.

Personally, I know the pain of long-term relationships falling apart. I have had my heart broken before, as I believe many of us have. This song touches my heart particularly because the man or woman in this song believes that the relationship he or she was in would last a lifetime: “You said we were gonna last forever, you said our love would never die, it looks like spring and, feels like sunny weather, but it’s a cold day in July.”

You Can’t Hurry Love: “You Can’t Hurry Love” never made it to the top of the music charts, but I really love the lyrics of this song. Personally, I can relate to the desire the woman has in this song to fall in love. I, like her, however, also recognize that you cannot rush true love and that it is worth waiting for. I think a lot of other people can also relate to the lyrics of this song.

If I Fall, You’re Going Down With Me: “If I Fall You’re Going Down With Me” is another one of the Dixie Chick’s best songs. This song is about falling in love.

I believe this song holds significance to so many people because those who fall in love want the person they are falling in love with to fall in love with them as well.

These are the best 10 songs by the Dixie Chicks in my opinion. Their songs touch many people’s hearts because the Dixie Chicks sing about things that happen in everyday life.
