Top 10 Songs by Lifehouse

Lifehouse

Lifehouse has been one of my favorite bands for a few years now. Lifehouse’s songs are filled with heartfelt lyrics about personal experiences, and when you listen to each song, you can feel the emotion that is coming out of lead singer Jason Wade. I have compiled a list of my top 10 Lifehouse songs, and the reasons behind my choices. There are many more amazing songs by this band, but I had to narrow it down to just 10.

1. Spin. Spin is the first track off the Stanley Climbfall album. The album as a whole did not gain much of the commercial success that any of the other three albums earned, but this gem stands out. Spin is a much harder rock track than most anything else the band has out on any other record. The lyrics hit home and make me think about tough times in relationships that I might have. “The world keeps spinning’ round, my world’s upside down and I wouldn’t change a thing” demonstrates the fact that despite anything bad going on with a relationship and how chaotic it could be at times, it’s all worth it in the end for the person you love.

2. First Time. First Time is the first single off the brand new album Who We Are. This track, like Spin is a rock-oriented track and details the sentiments about every time you are with the person you love, it’s like the very first time. It makes you feel like your love is fresh, new, and exciting. It’s a great feel good song and echoes that state of being alive.

3. Breathing. Breathing is buried deep into No Name Face, but is one of my absolute favorite songs by any artist. The song is very acoustical, and unfortunately does not get the airplay I would like. Even seeing the band three times in a year, it was not on the set list once. Although I was disappointed, whenever I do hear the song, it’s a story about someone who despite their significant other seemingly not wanting any contact, he seems alright with the notion that just hearing their breath on the other end of the phone, is enough for him. I know personally I have felt that way in my life, that no matter what, if I love someone, just knowing they’re there is all I need.

4. You and Me. You and Me is a classic love song. It’s simple and straightforward. You know that the person the song is about has caught his attention, and he has become infatuated with them. It’s a beautiful message and a beautiful thought of it just being the two of them and nothing else in the world matters.

5. Blind. Blind is the total opposite of You and Me, and even comes as the next track on Lifehouse’s self-titled album. Blind is about losing the person you loved so deeply, and being incredibly heartbroken over it. You can feel the pain in Jason’s voice when he belts out the lines “After all these times, I never thought we’d be here” you can tell that this is the last thing he ever thought would happen. A painful, harrowing experience that you can actually feel in your gut as you listen.

6. Whatever It Takes. Whatever It Takes is another track off Who We Are, and details the mistakes made in a relationship and doing anything and everything to turn those mistakes around. The minute I heard this song, I felt a personal connection to the concept and lyrics because at the time I was going through a tough time with my relationship and knew I would do whatever it took for me to prove how much I loved her and how much I wanted to be with her.

7. All in All. All in All has never been released as a single but to me the message is a good one. Coming off the self-titled album, this song expresses that no matter what is going on in your life, if you stand up and face the world and make the best out of the situation at hand, that you can get through even the most dire of times.

8. Broken. After listening to Broken once more right before writing this piece, the message was loud and clear. The song tells of a trust that was indeed broken. The bond between the two was at one point extremely strong, but something happened along the way to break that bond. Despite being hurt, he still receives a message to hang on from that person and waits for one last piece of advice. It gives you hope that even if a friendship suffers some minor strains, that all bonds that are broken are not permanent.

9. Everything. Everything, the final track off No Name Face is one of the band’s longest songs, and starts off really slow and haunting. It seems to be about someone or something that is inspiring and moving. “You are the strength that keeps me walking. You are the hope that keeps me trusting” are strong statements and accolades given to whatever the song’s main idea circles around. The chorus further justifies that sentiment by saying “And how could I stand here with you and not be moved by you”. The song keeps with it’s slow tempo until the end as Jason belts out the lyrics “Cause you’re all I want, you’re all i need, you’re everything” leading you to believe that in fact whoever he is talking about is so vital to his existence that he will not survive without them.

10. We’ll Never Know. This is another hidden gem off the self-titled album. The song hits home because the message is something that not only I but we should all live by. If there is something out there that may be beneficial and great in our lives, why not take a risk and see what it’s all about. It may be worth it in the end, and if not, as the the chorus states “We’ll never know ’til we try”.
